Emerald Eyes

The man looked into the pleading emerald eyes of the girl. Her face stuck him as familiar, but he couldn't quite place it. Tears fell from her face, as she begged him to come back, to be with her. He had little sympathy for her; the years of searching for power had corrupted him. She was just a meaningless figure in his past, the past that he had forgotten.

She, coated with her own blood and many others, again confessed her love. She wanted him back. The naïve girl believed that if he was back, then everything would be okay. It would all return to normal. She had never given up, not when everyone else did, she hadn't stopped loving him.

She lived in the past, in her happier days, so unlike the present. Her eyes saw him, as he was before, and not the cruel man he was. The man that finally got his long-awaited vengeance, and was still not satisfied. The man that killed his teacher, a legendary Sannin. She didn't see a cold ruthless murderer; no she saw a boy, and she wanted him back.

He looked at the pitiful creature at his feet. So many people, so many nameless faces, had cowered in fear, they wanted to keep their lives. But, she was different, this girl. There was something else in her eyes, not fear, but… love?

Confusion aroused in his mind, and foggy memories began to clear.

"Sasuke, I love you."

"…I love you."

"…Love you."

Her voice echoed in his head. Was she someone important in his past? Who was she?

"Sasuke… Please… stop this…" The girl said, and he was jerked back to the present.

"Who are you?" He asked coldly, not revealing any hint of emotion, and the confusion he felt.

"Don't you remember? I'm Sakura… Sakura!" She said shrilly, she was losing control of everything. He didn't remember who she was? Her mind, was hanging dangerously on the edge of sanity, for he was her all. He was the thing that she worked for, and what she lived for. During the years of pain and suffering, the thought of him was the only thing keeping her alive… And the man of her dreams… didn't… remember… her…

"Sakura…" He whispered. That name... That girl… She was… and then he remembered. He remembered everything…

He looked, once again, into the emerald eyes of the girl, the girl who loved him beyond anything imaginable, and said…

"Sakura… I remember…"

The girl was calmed by the words, and sighed deeply. He remembered her.

His pale fingers lifted up her chin, and he bent down and kissed her.

His lips touched hers, softly, oh so softly.

It was just a fleeting second.

And in that second, she felt eternal bliss.

As she felt the weight of his lips lift, there was a sharp pain on her neck.

And she crumpled on the floor.

Lying there, she felt content, utterly content. She didn't fear what was about to happen, because finally, she had reached the utmost star. It was time to let go… To let go of him, and let go of life… To let go of the pain that had been with her ever since he had left, oh so long ago…

And with that thought… She died…
