Herky was in the hanger at Tarrytown Airport one afternoon. With him were some friends he made friends with recently. Their names were Wendy, Wanda and Winona and they were all sisters.
But then Herky had to fly to Famer Ben's and then the Tarrytown Library to drop off deliveries. So he left the three ducks up to their own devices.
Wanda was feeling bored without Herky around, so she flew over and nicked Herky's gum shield from its case which Herky hadn't closed properly.
Her sister Wendy felt jealous so the pair went in for a tug of war together.
The gum shield was fine until Wendy slipped over her webbed feet and fell. In the catastrophe the gum shield snapped.

Poor Herky didn't find out until later so he had to do without the gum shield.
But his snores came back loudly that night, and it caused some commotion.

Next morning, Jay Jay thought of an idea to help stop Herky snoring so loudly.
He produced an old pacifier.
"It should help muffle your snoring and make it quieter." He told him.
"Thanks, I guess." Herky replied uncertainly.

That night, the little helicopter put the pacifier in his mouth.
But about five minutes later, poor Herky was shaking like a leaf and fussing.
This kept Jay Jay up the longest, and it really annoyed him.
But when he saw Herky trembling in sleep, he felt guilty. He was the one who suggested that Herky wear the pacifier and it was clearly not working.
So Jay Jay silently vowed to his friend he'll be back, and flew off holding the two pieces of Herky's gum shield on his wing.
...
"But I thought you found a solution?" Asked Brenda Blue, when Jay Jay told her she had to fix the gum shield.
"I thought I had, but now he's shaking and fussing, and I don't know what to do."
"Alright, go back to Herky and keep him calm until I arrive. I have some special glue that can do the job." Brenda instructed.
"Okay." And he flew off back to his friend.

To Jay Jay, it felt like hours before the gum shield was fixed. He had spoken to Herky calmly, provided him with an occasional comforting touch and soft noises as well- but they were only good temporarily, so Jay Jay hoped that he didn't have to wait long.
Thankfully, he didn't have to.
Brenda snuck into the hanger and together, they got the gum shield fitted.
"Done!" Brenda said in relief.
Herky slept without further trouble so Brenda and Jay Jay exchanged goodnights and went to go to bed.
