--LUCKY STAR--

--SAP WARNING--
This fic (which, BTW, is written from Shinji's perspective) contains quite a bit of sugary
sap-like qualities, so if you're not into that, read it anyway, then send me abuse. :-)
--LUCKY STAR--
I discovered this place up on the roof. Out there, I can watch the sunset and watch the stars
come out one by one. Occasionally, I watch the sunrise, and watch as a deep orange surrounds
everything, giving way to clear blue sky. Sometimes, the sunset or the sunrise occurs all
around me, and I miss it. I'm too busy thinking. It's peaceful. It's serene. Sometimes, if I'm
lucky, I can forget everything that has happened. But as beautiful as it is, one thing was
always missing.
Then one night you joined me. On the way up you insisted you were only coming to see why I
spend so much time up there, but as soon as we reached the top, you fell silent with awe. I
took up my usual place, lying down to watch the sky. You lay beside me, surprising me by not
insulting me. We lie in silence, both lost in our own thoughts, watching as the pink sky grows
darker, watching as the burning sun sinks. The sky turns a deep velvet blue, and stars start to
fill the sky. We remain silent, but unlike so many of the silences we've been in, this one
isn't uncomfortable. This silence is full of comfortable familiarity.
I hope you don't ask me what I'm thinking about, because then I'll have to lie. But I don't
think you will. For once in our lives, we're respecting each other, knowing that we're both
thinking private thoughts. But part of me hopes you will ask me. That same part hopes that,
when you do ask, I'll have the courage to tell you what I'm thinking. What I've been thinking
for so many days and nights.
But you don't ask. Instead, we remain silent, and I can feel the peace you're radiating, a
pleasant change to your usual tension. I can tell that you're happy, and that makes me happier
than you could know. I want you to be happy. I know you haven't had much happiness in your
life.
It starts to rain, lightly at first, then more heavily. The spell is broken, and you sit up,
asking me if I'm coming in. I tell you that I'll be in in a minute, and you offer me a smile.
It's not like the other smiles you've given me. It's not malicious or fake or manipulative.
It's pure, it's sweet, and I realise with surprise that I've never seen you really smile
before. You head inside, and I resume my activity. Carefully, I scan the sky for the brightest
star I can find.
When I finally find it, I name it Asuka.
--Author's Notes--
If anyone picked up the connection, yes, I did get the title from 'Lucky Star' by Alex Lloyd.
Why? Because that song is cool, they had the star relationship, and I also think the line from
the song that goes, "I want you to know someone will be there for you" is pretty appropriate.
Sap isn't my usual forte but I'm feeling a little melancholy today.
Big hugs and kisses to Kelly, Angela, Casey, Renee and Heather, Lauren, Sarah and Steph just
for being there for me, I love you guys soo much!
Thanks for reading this far.
Till next time!
