Author: A one-shot centered around thinking that Gray did remember and regret ruining Yamato's cake when he first encountered him, so I thought he would do something to make up for that.

I wrote this in like I don't know half a year ago? I just now decided to share it!

Gray's POV

It's been a long while since we became friends, really good friends. We're also long-term rivals, but I guess Yamato has more rivals than I think: Terry, Wen, Enjyu, possibly a lot of friends we made.

Aside that, there's something that bothered me a lot at times... when I first met Yamato eye-to-eye, I destroyed his birthday cake. Everytime I remembered that, I regret it a little bit and then leave that aside. Before I knew it, though, his 12th birthday is coming. This is my chance to make that up for him!

On the morning of his birthday, I came up to Mie and asked her.

"Excuse me, Mie, I was just wondering... do you still have the recipe for Yamato's cake last year?"

"Oh, you mean the one you demoli-"

"Please don't remind me! That's why I'm asking that!"

"Huh?" She looked puzzled.

"I wish to make that up for him by making him the exact same cake! I would also like your help for it."

"If you want, Gray, let's go shopping for the recipes, kay?" Mie winked.

Sure... shopping really isn't my thing, it's more like for Liena, but this is an exception.

Later, Mie and I made the cake, although I did most of the work, while everyone else were decorating the Cafe dining room while Yamato was away training.

At sunset, he came back, the room was completely dark. "Huh? Where is everyone?"

Then suddenly the lights turned on and all of us burst out.

"SURPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY YAMATO!" We all said in unison.

"Aww you guys!" Yamato was really happy and even blushed a bit. It actually made me smile, just a little. He looked around for something. "So... where's my cake?"

"Oh Yamato, be patient, Gray's gonna get it in a minute." Mie grunted as I ran in to get his cake.

"Gray?"

"Yes." She smiled.

"H-Happy Birthday, Yamato, Mie and I made this for you." I placed the cake with 12 candles on the table right in front of him. "I'm really sorry about what happened on your last birthday... so I wanted to make up for that."

"Oh Gray... you're so kind!" Yamato gave me a big hug with tears in his eyes. He seems so delighted. One small part of me wanted to pull him away because I'm not a huggable type of person, but most of me only felt like embracing back, so I hugged him back. I blushed a little because I never knew I would do something extremely nice for him.

After he blew out the candles, he opened his presents. Afterwards, we had a really great time.

I don't even know what to say for this, but this is one of the best days of my life.
