A Lie to Me New Year

A/N: A few separate drabbles, a few separate characters. All are set right at the moment when 2009 merged into 2010. All are exactly 100 words. The first one is Gillian's POV. To anyone who knows the bands, the name Lacey Williams is, in fact, a tribute to the lead singers of two of my favorites.

Alone Together

The city is stretched out below us.

The world is awake as it waits for the decade to turn.

"Do you have a new year's resolution?" I ask Cal.

"No." He doesn't bother to ask me the same.

Before us is the capitol building, beautiful against the dark night sky.

A moment passes.

And then it's midnight. Fireworks explode from the lawn of the White House, and a few cheers float up to us from the city.

I reach over and take Cal's hand. We hold on to each other.

He is next to me, and we are alone together.

New Sun

Balloons fall from the restaurant's ceiling as the clock strikes twelve.

A small smile tugs at the corners of Lacey Williams' mouth as she glances shyly at Eli. He swats away a few balloons that have fallen around them.

He shrugs to ease her nerves and leans over.

Their lips meet in the flickering candlelight.

Tonight, she is his date. Tonight, they are together.

The two share the joy of the start of a new year.

Their slates are wiped clean as their lips part.

They kiss to celebrate the hope that peeks over the horizon with the new sun.

Toast to 2010

The ball in New York began its slow descent to the ground.

Torres took another drink from bottle of whisky she held. The last of the liquid dripped from the lip of it into her mouth.

She tossed the bottle into a corner, opening one of champagne.

Alone. Completely and utterly alone.

Had she wished, Torres could easily have gotten a date for New Years, or gone to a party.

But she chose to be alone, away from the happiness of others, away from the blissfulness she rarely felt.

She took a swig of the bittersweet champagne.

"Happy New Year."

Sorrows

Alec stared at the ceiling.

He created meaningless patterns out of the dancing dust particles, made friends with the shadows on his wall.

He sighed as a general rush of noise rose from the streets. That meant that it was now 2010, a brand new year for him to suffer through.

Alec reached over and grabbed his phone from the nightstand.

He typed the number in and pressed send.

In his mind, he went over everything he wanted to say. 'I miss you, I love you, come home to me, I didn't mean any of it…'

But she didn't answer.
