A/N: I stole this wonderful first line from the forums so thanks to whoever posted it. Just a short little something to pass my time. Enjoy!

Rock, paper, scissors was a hard game.

The principle was simple enough sure. And it was very handy when you needed a quick way to decide which one of you was going to jump off the deep end in the I-sure-hope-this-doesn't-kill-me sort of way. Thinking back, John was sure that it had solved more than a few disputes in his younger years. Hell, it even worked when he was fighting Ronon for the last piece of pumpkin pie.

But when you had to use it to decide whether you or your best friend was going to risk your lives and neither of you wanted to let the other go… well, things became difficult.

"That ship is ready to blow. You'll die!"

The blue eyes were glaring at him.

"If I don't go over there the rest of the population is going to be wiped out. You know I can't let that happen."

"Fine, I'll go. I can do it faster than you can anyway."

"You know I can't let you do that."

The blue eyes lowered. "Don't be an idiot." It was a whisper.

"Rock, paper, scissors."

"What?" The eyes rolled. "I said don't be an idiot."

"Decide now McKay. Either we do this or I go right now."

There was concession in the blue eyes now. "Fine."

"Whoever wins lives." John smiled at his own gruesome joke. "I mean stays."

Rodney stuck out a fist.

Yep, rock, paper, scissors was a hard game when you were both trying to lose.
