Hey everyone! It's been a while since I've written anything on here, but I found this old short story I wrote for a creative writing class. Yes, I wrote a fanfic for an assignment lol

I really hope you all enjoy it

"No way, old man, no way," the younger of the two said as he leaned back in his chair. "There's no way I'll agree to that." He shook his head, gritting his teeth as he stared at the bald man sitting nearby. Amongst the most powerful in Spira, these two men truly reign supreme.

"Why not, Gippal? It's perfect," the elder replied.

"What's so perfect about it?"

"Well, you'll become leader of the Al Bhed faction if you agree."

"I'll be the one to become leader? What about Brother?" He laughed when Cid scoffed at the very mention of the name. Gippal knew quite well why Cid didn't even consider giving his own son his position of power. "He's smart enough for the job."

"He's dumb as dirt. And so are you for making the same mistake as him, walking away from my offer," he said almost pouting.

"I resent that. I'm smart for refusing. I have my own faction to manage, you know."

"So? Your faction is practically a part of the Al Bhed's culture. "

"What's your point, old man? "

"I need someone I trust to rule over our people."

"Then what about Rikku?"

"You know as well as I do that my baby girl is a free bird."

Gippal could only laugh. If anyone knew just how free Rikku could be, it would be him. She was never the think-before-you-act type, and her free spirit wandered wherever it pleased, living a life with no regrets no matter how bad things got. When people leave or things change, she always looks forward without glancing back, never chasing what was lost. Memories are nice, he remembered her saying once, but that's all they are. "So what do you want me to do? Marry her to tie her down? No man can cage her."

Cid shrugged, knowing the truth. "No man can cage her? Listen here, boy. I want you to marry her so you can become leader without raising any fuss. I've known you since you were as tall as my knees. I've helped raised you along side Brother and Rikku. You're already like a son to me, might as well make it official. Besides, if any man could fly like her it would be you."

He shook his head. "You still don't get it, old man."

"What's the big deal anyways? You two made quite the couple."

"That was a long time ago."

"Not that long. You know, she was heart-broken when you left without saying a word of good-bye."

"She wasn't heart-broken. She was pissed."

"Heart-broken. Pissed. What's the difference?"

"Whatever you say, old man," Gippal said, standing up to leave. "Let's get one thing straight; I don't want anything to do with becoming leader. Got it?"

"Are you sure?" Cid asked. "You're throwing away a great thing."

"I know," he said with an apologetic smile. "But I'll only agree if she'll have me."

Ehhh show me some love? :D
