It was almost sunrise as Andromeda looked out of her kitchen window. The first strands of light peering over the smoky grey clouds. The morning dew that covered all the grass was shining like a sea of diamonds. Yet, as beautiful as the scene was Andromeda was not actually looking at it. She was, as she did every morning, contemplating her new life and the one she left behind.
She wishes that she was as strong as Sirius. When he left he cut and ran as far away as possible. Never once did he look back and never once did he falter. She wishes that she had that kind of resilience and conviction.
Unlike Sirius, Andromeda's memories of her family haunted her every moment of everyday. Every time she looked into her little girls beautiful face all she could see were her Black features. From her perfectly sculpted nose to her delicate wrists all she could see was her past.
She has dreamt of them every night since she left. She dreams of them when they were children. She dreams of Cissa spinning around in a gorgeous pink little dress looking like the princess that she is. She dreams of Bella on the floor of the Black library trying to learn everything and anything. She dreams of her cousins Sirius and Regulus and the days that they would all play in the back yard from sun up to sun down.
CRASH!
The memories faded as loud noise had ripped her back to reality. Her little Nymphie had woken up and probably broken something in the process. She often wondered whether her mother had put a curse on her before she had left that made her daughter so clumsy. She wouldn't put it past her.
As she bustled around getting her daughter and husband ready for the day, the scar on her right hand caught the morning light. Although it was faded from years of life, she could still recall exactly where she had gotten that scar from.
It had been the summer before Bella and Siri had gone to school. Andi, Cissa and Reg had been worried that they would forget all about them when they left. So they decided to become blood brothers and sisters, even though they were cousins, at the age of nine it seemed like a great idea. All five of the Black children cut the little stretch of skin between the thumb and wrist. They held hands and promised to be together forever, no exceptions.
She guessed forever had come and gone a little sooner than they could have expected.
When Andromeda was feeling speculative she imaged that her memories were there to haunt her because of her broken promise. Bellatrix had probably put some type of curse on the vow. She wouldn't put it past her.
Years went by and still she remembers her family everyday. When Nymphadora becomes a wife all she thinks about is how Cissa must have looked marrying Lucius. When Teddy is born all she sees are his dark grey eyes and she remembers her father and uncle. When she's at her own daughter's funeral all she thinks about is if Bella even had one. At her husband's funeral she wonders what her mother's and father's must have been like.
It's these memories that hurt the most because maybe, just maybe, her family did win. They had stolen all the precious people in her life. She had spent so much of her life being pulled back into her memories that she never got a chance to say goodbye.
CRASH!
She is snapped back to reality by a noise from her daughter's bedroom. A little boy with bright green hair has awoken and had broken his toy.
Maybe they hadn't taken everything just yet.
