Author Note: This is my first attempt at a Fairy Tail Fanfiction and I'm not quite pleased with how this turned out nor am I pleased with myself that I wrote this before writing something for the various Kingdom Hearts things I have going. ;w; I'm terrible.

Anyway, I tried to capture these characters as best I could. But really its still kind of new to me and I'm trying. I think I might have written Mira the best out of any of them and she has like eight lines total maybe. Natsu is so OOC its horrendous but. Bluh.

Anyway this story is set in the manga/anime verse BEFORE the Grand Magic Games. And this is NaLu at its core though with the way it starts off you may not believe it. Mostly because I love Happy and Lucy. They're like my BroOTP.

AnywayI'llbabblemoreatthend. Enjoy !

Chapter One: The Job of Song!

Lucy sat perched on one of the stools at the guild's bar, her eyebrows furrowed as she stared intently at the take-over mage in front of her. Resting her chin in her palm she continued to scrutinize the nervous eldest Strauss sibling who was absently cleaning a glass. Lucy shifted her position, crossing her legs to signify she wasn't budging. Mirajane continued humming, feigning complete innocence under the blonde's glare. After a few moments of prolonged silence, Lucy groaned and slumped onto the counter, mumbling under her breath about Mira's devilish tendencies.

"How come you want to be up in everyone else's business but when it comes to your love life, you're a closed book?" Lucy grumbled darkly as she stared up at Mira from her arms.

Continuing to clean the same glass she had been for well over a half hour, Mira smiled at the celestial mage, "What love life, Lucy?"

Lucy took this as a time to step away from the bar and look over the Request board before she started a fight with a mage she would surely lose.

With the Grand Magic Games still months away, and the wizards not leaving the guild for training for another few weeks, she felt she should get in all the jobs she could. The rent wouldn't pay itself while she was training at least. She shuffled over to the request board, mumbling a casual greeting to Nab who, once again, was hovering around the board and not at all picking a job and looked over the available postings.

All four available postings. She couldn't help but feel her stomach clench, the seven years they had been gone had really affected the guild. How were they all even surviving off of pickings like these? How hard had it been? Shaking her head to clear her mind from the spiraling thoughts she was having, she continued to look them over. She felt her face visibly droop, three out of four of these were outrageous hunt and destroy missions, ones she would need an entire team to take on. Unfortunately, as nice as the rewards were for this jobs, her team was a bit spread out at the moment.

Erza was out pre-training for her training for the Grand Magic Games. Grey and Juvia had taken a job earlier this morning, and Natsu… She sighed. She supposed she could ask Natsu to accompany her on a job but he had made it a point that he wanted to relax before training. That and she didn't think she could reign him in without Erza's help.

She turned her attention to the remaining job, a smile slowly spreading across her face. Destroy the sword that I made. Reward: 600,000 jewels. Once again a job suited to Natsu, but she was sure with her spirits she could handle destroying a single sword. Her eyes skimmed to the bottom of the job request discerning its location and nearly fell out in the floor. It wasn't even in Fiore!

She grabbed the piece of paper off the board, bringing it closer to her face. "Where the hell is Song continent…?" Wherever it was, she figured it was far off. That explained the high reward at least. Who would pay 600,000 jewel for someone to destroy a sword otherwise? Mumbling under her breath she walked back towards the bar to question Mira.

However she was intercepted by a blue ball of fur to the face. "LUUUCY," Happy's high pitched cry was right next to her ear as the Exceed clung to her face.

"H-Happy, get off of me!" She pried the feline from her head, holding him at arm's length as he tried to squirm out of her hold. "What's wrong with you now?"

"Natsu's being mean!" Happy's eyes had grown in size and his flailing increased tenfold. "And he's right there, lemme go!" Sighing she loosened her hold allowing the Exceed to take flight into the rafters.

"Aw, Lucy, what the heck?" She turned to see the dragon slayer behind her with his right hand aflame. Letting out a huff of air he doused his flame and put his hands on his hips, staring up at his best partner. "Oi, come on down, Happy." The Exceed narrowed his eyes and shook his head.

"Dare I ask what's going on?" Lucy interjected, causing Natsu to lazily look at her from the corner of his eye. However the piece of paper in her hand caught his eye and his fiery attention was diverted from Happy for the time being.

"You going on a job?"

Lucy held the paper back up to her face, looking it over once more with an uneasy glance. "I'm not sure, I was going to ask Mira about it fir- HEY! Give me that!" Natsu hadn't waited for her to finish instead snatching the paper from her hands and staring at it.

"This sounds boring. Why not go on a fun job?" He looked at her over the arm he was using to block her advances. She reclaimed the paper, more so he handed it back to her, and turned away to walk towards the bar. Frowning he trailed behind her, wanting to hear what Mira had to say on the job as well out of curiosity.

"There aren't any fun jobs, Natsu," She chided, to which he simply rolled his eyes and hopped up on a stool affront Mirajane. Mira turned her attention to the two mages with an arched brow.

"You two going out on a job?"

"Nope."

Lucy ignored his blunt answer before handing the paper to Mira, "Well there weren't many to choose from, but could you tell me more about this one? I don't even know where the Song continent is?"

Mira frowned slightly as she read over the paper herself, "Yeah, this one has been up on the board for a while. I think because everyone thinks they'd have to pay for the trip to the continent. But the truth is, the trip is paid for there and back if the job is accepted. I think even boarding for the stay is as well." Lucy's eyes lit up at this, an all-expenses paid trip out of Magnolia? Who was she to pass that kind of job up? Mira noted the look in the blondes eye, holding up a finger to halt the girl's train before it left the station. "Hold on now, Lucy, Song is a week away at least. Are you sure this is the kind of job you want to take?"

Lucy paused, staring in disbelief at Mira for a few moments before looking back down at the paper. "Well it's destroying a sword, right?" She heard Natsu make an audible yawn beside her, to which she ignored and continued, "It'll be an easy job, and besides it'd be nice to get out and see a few more places."

Mira stared at the celestial mage for a few moments before nodding and turning to Natsu with a smile, "Are you going with her Natsu?"

"No way, a week of trains and boats? No thanks," He turned his stool to stare at Lucy, "And you're not going either."

Lucy scoffed, folding her arms and staring back at him, "And why not?"

"You can't go by yourself." He stated simply, as if it were the most obvious thing in Earthland.

"Then come with me!" He shook his head quickly, his face turning green at the mere thought of accompanying his friend.

"I'll go with you, Lucy!" Lucy looked up to see Happy floating down from the rafters before ungracefully landing on her head. He scrambled to a sitting position, holding up a paw in the air to affirm his landing was a success.

"Woah, woah, what the heck little buddy?" Natsu was glaring up at the Exceed with a mixture of confusion and irritation.

"You said you didn't want her to go alone, so I'll go with her, even if she smells!"

"Watch it, cat." Lucy leaned on the bar to support the extra weight before shifting her attention back to Natsu, "If you won't go with me I might as well take Happy along, right?"

Mira looked on with a smile, "It's going to be a long trip Happy," Mira knew from experience that Natsu and Happy didn't do well separated. And even more so lately if the trio were at all separated from one another none of them did well. She could only imagine how Natsu would be moping around come day two.

Happy's eyes narrowed as he rolled to his stomach, successfully messing up Lucy's hair as he leaned over to look in her eyes. She stared back up at him with an unamused glare. The two stared at one another for almost a minute straight before Happy looked up at Mira and Natsu, nodding his head. "You sure you don't wanna come, Natsu?"

The dragon slayer shook his head, crossing his arms as it seemed his friend had made up his mind. "I don't think I'd survive. But what the heck come on, let's just pick another job?"

Lucy fixed her glare on the pyro in front of her, "I want to do this one. I'm not making you come along!"

"Then you're not going!" He growled out through clenched teeth. Lucy was taken aback slightly by the hostile reaction, narrowing her eyes in return before reaching on top of her head and plucking Happy from his perch. She sat the Exceed on the counter before turning to Mira, "I'll accept it. I'm gonna go get packed then I'll drop back by for the details, okay?" She turned back to Natsu, "You can come along or not, either way I'm going." She gave Happy's head a quick rub before turning and heading towards the exit of the guild.

The three mages stared after the blonde until she exited the guild. Happy looked up at Natsu with a frown, "I think you made her upset."

"Well why the hell does she want to go halfway across the damn globe anyway?" He placed his head into his palm, shutting his eyes to ward off his irritation as best he could. "I wouldn't care if she'd just take someone with her."

Mira couldn't help but to smile as she turned away from the two, allowing them to discuss the problem in private.

"I can go with her," Happy held up his paw, "I don't want her going alone either, we both know she's stupid!"

Natsu frowned at his partner, "Yeah but it's weird not to be together, pal. Besides what am I supposed to do while you're gone?"

Happy nodded in understanding, he felt the same of course, but he also knew that Lucy on a mission alone for that long would be detrimental. "You said you wanted to rest up this week so just relax."

Natsu groaned, casually looking around the guild for any of the other members. He knew most were out on jobs but even Wendy and Charle were missing. He was sure that contributed to why Happy was so willing to accompany Lucy. "Have you seen Levy?"

Happy looked around as well and shook his head, while Mira chirped up from behind them, "She's off with Shadow Gear doing a job."

Natsu sighed again, turning to stare at Happy, "Eh, you two just be careful, alright?" He didn't have much of a choice unless he chose to accompany the two. But he knew he wouldn't be of any use and he didn't want to spend a week straight sick either.

Happy bounced to his feet with a nod, "Aye sir!" Grinning, Natsu opened his arms wide allowing the Exceed to jump into a quick embrace, long enough for the Dragon Slayer to whisper something in the cats ear. Happy nodded, "I promise," he said simply before pointing towards the door. "Come on, we gotta go catch Lucy!"

Natsu threw a "Later Mira!" over his shoulder as he ran towards the exit of the guild to go catch up with their partner, Happy flying off behind him.

Right so it was creeping over 2000 words and I figured that was as good as place as any to stop. I'm not known for long chapters by any means c;
So like I mentioned up front, this is new to me and I'd really like some critique or feedback. I'd also like to ask if anyone would be willing to beta this story ;w; Cause If I just keep putting out chapters like this I will not be pleased with myself. It really started to fall apart when I had to focus on dialogue.

Song continent… c; Crossover anyone? Hehe I'll expand on this in the next chapter. Thank you for reading, drop me a review if it tickles your fancy and see you guys in the next chapter which I can give no date for ;w;
