Author's Note: Just a random little drabble I got inspired to write after watching the movie.
Pairing: One-sided Stayne/Alice.
She was an oddity, a strange and wonderful mistake, of that Ilosovic Stayne was certain. Before seeing her, he had scoffed at the notion of love at first sight. A simple fool's tale he would so often say, for the only thing one knows for certain is lust never love as so frequently proven by the patrons of the queen's court. But now, now he daresay that he may have found truth to that wretched tale.
Her shining ringlets caught the sunlight perfectly, making it seem as though she had a halo encircling her frame. Her beautiful orbs, a sort of honeyed brown colour aged to perfection with time, were that of a wild doe: so wide, so innocent, so curious. And her smile, oh yes her smile. Her bright smile, even if it was cast at someone as lowly as that imbecilic Hatter, was enough to show that she had never been marred by the constraints of this war as so many others. Naïve, perhaps. Endearing, most certainly. Unusual, definitely.
She was his opposite, the other side of his mirror, but most importantly she was his. Even is she did not know it yet. Unlike most of the ladies of court, his usual flattery did nothing to appease her. He daresay that it made her almost leery of him, as she always gazed at him with a subtle trace of fear lining her eyes. He scoffed at the notion that a creature as marvelous as her would fear him but smile upon someone as worthless as a madman. But fear was better than nothing. In fact, fear could prove most advantageous for him. It is easier to sway a heart with fear than love after all.
