Swept away
Four shapes moved in single line balancing on the river bank. The leader a large grey she-cat looked back at her fellow warriors.
" I promise, its not far now. Just up this hill and we're home again" The other two nodded bravely. The third one, a large ginger she-cat shivered with mud caking her fur.
" I'm cold. And wet" She moaned and looked at her leader desperately. The other two cats rolled their eyes.
" We know Goldenpelt. Shut up and we might just get there quicker." A white tom hissed at the fat mud covered she-cat.
Goldenpelt looked away. She felt so weak and stupid compared to her clan mates. She looked at her leader, hoping she would tell them to be nicer to her, but as per usual Rabbitstar ignored them.
" Rabbitstar are we there yet?" Goldenpelt asked. Again the white tom told her to shut up.
" You lot just don't ever seem to care about me? What have I done wrong? I'm sorry for whatever it is" Goldenpelt stopped and asked them. Rabbitstar turned around patiently.
" We do care about you Goldenpelt, its just-" She was cut off by her son, the white tom.
" Because all you do is drag up down! Your as useless as your mother was! But she was a kittypet! you were born a warrior and yet you stand there, covered in mud, moaning like a runt and you can't hunt or fight, all you do is eat our well earned food!" He snarled at her.
Goldenpelt looked at her paws. Rabbitstar didn't do anything. They all just sighed and turned around and began their trek. Goldenpelt began to pad on again, when the banks began to tremble. All the cats stopped and looked at the bank.
" Everybody get on that ledge! The river is going to burst its banks!" A tabby she-cat screeched. Goldenplet followed her clan mates to a ledge as quickly as she could, which was rather slowly.
" I can't get up!' She mewled in panic. She get her front legs onto the ledge, but her back half wouldn't co-operate. The white tom reached down and grabbed her paws.
" Up you come-" He began to pull her up slowly. she smiled at him. Her smile was returned with a smirk.
" See you later" Her face of confusion was answered. He let her go. She screamed in fear and she went plummeting downwards. She heard Rabbitstar gasp in shock, unware at the fact her own son had turfed her into the rapids. " Help! Please help me! I promise I'll be more use-" She was cut off as she was sucked beneath the surface.
Rabbitstsar looked in horror as her clan mate was washed downstream.
" We have to save her!" She yowled as she ran towards the edge of the ledge. She was stopped by her son, Whitestrike.
" Mother, please its too late, you'll get yourself killed!" He pleaded. Rabbitstar looked at her son.
" I have eight lives left, she only has one! I'm not going to let her drown!" And with that she pushed her son away and leapt into the icy water below, never to return.
