Hey guys, this is set towards the end of season 2, just after Damon fed Elena his blood because he's being all selfish and that. Alaric and Jenna are discussing what's happening around them. Just a short fic, showing why Jenna is a independent woman who don't need no man.
Although Alaric is a badass.
Disclaimer, yo: I don't own TVD, if I did, then Ian Somerhalder would be sitting here, right now, feeding me scotch and cheesecake... Possibly two of the greatest things in life, served by one of the greatest men.
Alaric had his head inside his hands when he heard footsteps. He looked up to see Jenna watching him, her brow furrowed.
"What is it?" She asked, taking a seat next to him. Alaric shook his head.
"It's just... all of this. Klaus, Elijah, Damon, Elena, Stefan, Bonnie... You. All of this... doesn't it seem too much to deal with in a lifetime?" He turned to her to watch her reaction. She bit her lip.
"Well... I think it's too much, and I've only known about it for barely a day. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how all of you kept this from me, when now it seems all so obvious." Jenna smiled, but Alaric knew she was still upset about being kept in the dark. He took her hand and squeezed it gently.
"I wanted to tell you... But I didn't know if you would take it like Elena and Jeremy did. Actually I blame myself for Jeremy being in the know... I'm the one that made him do that stupid history report."
Jenna smacked him playfully, "I thought he did a great report!"
Alaric finally smiled, "He did, I just meant that-"
The door flew open, the sunlight blinding them momentarily before it slammed shut again. Damon walked in determinedly, making Alaric stand up.
"What is it Damon?"
"Ok look," said Damon, looking from Alaric to Jenna, "I know I screwed up. But what would have you two done? Would you just let her die?" He was almost pleading for reassurance.
"You can't ask me that Damon, I'm not a vampire. And I'm not in love with Elena," said Alaric quickly. Damon turned to Jenna.
"She's your family Jenna. What would you do? Let her die?"
Jenna took a deep breath; she still had trouble looking at Damon in the face.
"Damon, I think what you did was selfish and if I was Elena, I would hate you for making that choice for her," she looked up momentarily to see his reaction but he hadn't act like he had heard her. He was either ashamed or angry and Jenna found her voice to be stronger.
"I also know why you did it. You love her and I know that... I've known it for a while. You'll do anything to save her."
Damon finally faced her and gave her a little bow, "Thank you, someone sees my point."
"But," interrupted Jenna, "I think both you and Stefan are selfish and you should've left the first chance you had. Stefan wouldn't have stayed if you didn't come."
Damon's expression went from calm to livid in a second as he faced Alaric.
"You and Stefan having one on one sessions, Rick? Dishing the dirt, trying to find all the reasons why I'm here? Why I stayed?"
Alaric was about to reply when Jenna stood up and cut him off.
"I don't think any of you would've looked twice if she didn't look like Katherine. Would you have felt about her the same way if she looked like Caroline? If she acted like Bonnie? No. Both you and Stefan have caused enough pain to Elena with all this Katherine trouble."
Jenna looked between Alaric and Damon, both with identical masks of shock, then stormed away to the kitchen and picking up her crossbow as she went.
