A/N: Nothing belongs to me.
The Writer Of The Letters
Hermione paced back and forth in the Room of Requirement. She stopped herself from nibbling on her nails once again and smoothed down her dress that Ginny had jokingly referred to as 'her party frock' earlier. The light blue layers of lace ended at her knees and had a strapless lacy top. The thick pink ribbon tied around the middle gave her a tiny waist. She looked herself over once more in the mirror that had appeared and deemed herself presentable.
She heard the telltale tick tock from the clock and glanced at it, confirming that it was time. If she walked out of this room she would meet the person she had been exchanging letters with all term. She was nervous and excited to find out who had been writing to her. Gathering her courage she undid the lock on the door and opened it slowly.
Walking through the door and looking around she stared in shock at the only other person in the hallway. Surely this hadn't all been a joke?
Fred was standing in front of her looking as good as she had ever seen him. For a brief moment she worried the twins had found out about her long standing crush on Fred and had decided to use the information against her but then she noticed the shy, unsure look in Fred's eyes. She began to smile as she realized this might actually be her wish coming true.
When he saw her smile Fred held out his arm and invited her for a walk before the dance. They left through the front door of the school and began to walk down to the lake. At first conversation was stilted and awkward as Hermione combined the person she'd been writing to with the person beside her. They reached the end of the dock and Fred put his arm around her. They stood in a comfortable silence watching the sun set across the lake.
The two turned and began to walk back to the school slowly, wanting to extend this time that belonged to just the two of them before they had to be before the entire school. They lingered outside the doors, sharing secrets that they couldn't write down. Like how Hermione had a crush on Fred since her third year, or how Fred had tried to send her the letters when they were in the common room so he could watch her face while she read them.
Finally they realized they were late and hurried inside. From the sounds inside the great hall the dance had already started. Fred opened the door and showed her inside. It seemed every head turned at once to stare at the Jokester and the Bookworm together. They looked around from Ginny's smirking face to Ron's red one and Fred pulled Hermione to the dance floor and into his arms. After a moment people seemed to get over their shock and continued to enjoy the dance. Hermione relaxed into the arms holding her.
They danced every dance together and had never had so much fun. Hermione was glowing seemingly from the inside out by the time the last song came on. As they moved slowly together Hermione felt a finger drawing her chin up to look at Fred from where she'd been resting on his chest. They stared at each other for a moment before meeting in a kiss full of promises. Both of them felt that they had never been happier or felt safer and knew they wouldn't let go of that feeling.
