"Staying In"

River Song

"Scoot over Sweetie; you're hogging the whole bed." River complained and gently pushed her half-asleep husband to the middle of the bed. He grumbled sleepily and tightened his hold around her middle, only augmenting the problem. River sighed and placed her grade book on the nightstand. She just had to put off grading papers to the one night of the month The Doctor decided to sleep. Oh well, it couldn't be helped. And besides, how could she resist being with her sweetie? Especially when he decided to use her as a pillow. She chuckled softly to herself and pressed a loving kiss to her husband's fore head before turning off the light and snuggling further into his side. Those papers could wait 'till morning.

The Doctor

He didn't usually have nightmares. Even when he did The TARDIS would wake him up before they got this bad. But he wasn't in The TARDIS tonight so his nightmares had free reign. He woke up in a cold sweat, the harsh light of River's desk lamp stinging his eyes and her alarm clocks loud klaxons barraging his ears with unwanted sound. He looked around the room and was surprised to find River slumped over her desk fast asleep. She didn't have class today so studying must've kept her up late, later than normal by the bags under her eyes. Deciding that she looked rather uncomfortable he stretched. Got to his feet and half stumbled over to the desk. He switched off her light and with strength he didn't know he had he picked her up and carried her over to the bed where he settled her in and in true Doctor fashion flopped next to her, kissed her cheek and promptly went back to sleep.

He didn't mind sleeping in for once.

Together

They lay sprawled on a cot on some planet God knows where and they'd be damned if they knew when. Three days of running, jumping, hiding, and negotiating peace between two quarreling tribes had left even The Doctor exhausted. Upon telling their friend paya this he had graciously offered them his cot which they gladly accepted and collapsed on. They were lying almost on top of each other, their legs interlocking and their arms wrapped around each other like a vice, each so deeply asleep that not even the loud celebrations of the now brother tribes woke them. Because every once in a while even the defenders of the universe needed a little rest.

And neither disputed staying in for a while.
