Standing in one of the always changing corridors in what appeared to be a 1980s hotel, the Doctor found himself turning his head to look at one particular door.
Walking towards it slowly, the floorboards creaking underneath his feet with every step he took, the Doctor could see the number eleven clearly imprinted in gold with a black border around it. Number eleven. It was his room.
The Doctor knew it was only a matter of time before he came across the room which held his deepest fear. Joe had found his room, which held a number of disturbing dummies you may have seen on TV in the 1960s. Howie's was full of girls from his school who teased him about his stutter that had now returned in full-force. And Lucy Hayward, the girl the Doctor never met. She was afraid of a gorilla who haunted her stories as a child. And who would still haunt her now, even in eternal sleep.
Putting a hand against the white wood, the Doctor felt his hand travel down until it grasped the golden doorknob. As much as he tried to resist opening the door, knowing what would happen to him if he did, curiosity got the better of him. He was a Time Lord with over nine hundred years of adventures in time and space. He wanted to know what his room would of chosen from all of his many travels.
It was time to bite the bullet. Turning the knob ever so slightly, it feeling like a huge weight underneath his fingertips, the Doctor slowly pushed open the door, his hearts thumping erratically in his chest.
Poking his head inside, he could hear the cloister bell from his TARDIS tolling constantly. As its sound echoed around the large room, the Doctor came face to face with his deepest and darkest fear. It was a man. A man whose appearance looked young to you and me but his eyes showed that he was much, much older than anyone ever knew. He was a man who looked like he carried the weight of the Universe on his shoulders. And he was a man who was a hero to many, though he always caused death and destruction in his wake. Deaths that would always live with him, forever.
The Doctor's greatest fear...was himself. The darkest side of him. A person he really didn't want to become.
"Of course. Who else?"
Who else indeed?
I hope this drabble was OK :)
