Author's Note: So I had written this story about three years ago when I decided to start writing fanfiction. However, reading it over, I realize how horrible and incomplete it truly is. So this summer I decided to rewrite the entire thing and continue it. Even if you read the original, you will want to reread this. I have put in more details and changed a few things to try and make it a bit more realistic. More chapters are soon to come. Plus, this crossover fandom really needs more characters sent to the Fullmetal World rather than the other way around. I do not have a beta, but all of my works have been spell/grammar checked by Microsoft. If there are still mistakes, please point them out to me so I can fix them. I would really appreciate it.

Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto or Fullmetal Alchemist. Just the original plot lines that come from me.

Chapter One: How Two Became Three

ooo

The sound of his door slamming open startled seven-year-old Naruto awake. Getting out of bed, Naruto creeped to his bedroom door and cracked it open quietly. Through the crack, Naruto saw a man stumbling around. He was cursing loudly and waving a bottle of sake. The man was yelling for Naruto with a mad gleam in his eye while scanning around his apartment for him.

He was a ninja, a chunin by his vest. He also was not someone that Naruto had ever seen before. It was weird that someone would be able to even break into his house. Jiji said that his house was protected, that only he and Naruto could get in.

Usually if someone didn't like him, they just glared.

He first noticed it when the matron at the orphanage continually kicked him out during the day so she wouldn't have to look at him around the time Naruto turned four. Naruto was heartbroken at first, but soon loved to be outside. He could explore and play with the animals in the forest. It was much better than staying in his room all day or being shunned by the other kids. A majority of the other children at the orphanage didn't like to play with him because the older ones told them not to. It didn't help that the matron didn't like him either.

So Naruto wondered around the village when he got bored and began to notice something odd. If people weren't ignoring him, then they were glaring at him. Just like the matron.

To this day, Naruto did not know exactly why.

So he did the only thing a boy his age could do to get even a shred of attention. He started pranking people.

It was fun and it was something to do to pass the time. It was also great Ninja training. Being chased and forced to evade the people he pranked really helped in his physical endurance and stamina.

After he turned six, Jiji gave him an apartment and allowed him to enter the academy early which helped ease the boredom a little. Though reading the material given was near impossible sometimes.

So it was truly unusual that someone would break in. He did not have anything valuable and Naruto was absolutely sure that he had never met this man. Occasionally, he was knocked around by a few shop keepers, but never had someone broken into his home.

Peeking out from his bedroom door, Naruto became very scared. He had a bad feeling about this man. A very bad feeling.

Naruto frantically looked for a place to hide in his room. Spotting his closet, the boy ran to it quickly. Quietly cracking the closet door, Naruto hid under some of his dirty clothes. And just in time.

As soon as he sat down under the unwashed clothes, the chunin slammed his bedroom door open. The man began to search his room frantically. Turning over his bed, taking out all his drawers, and eventually came to the closet.

It did not take long for the ninja to find him under the clothes.

The chunin started to laugh with a crazed look in his eyes, swinging his sake bottle around. "Little demon, little demon! I've found you!" Grabbing Naruto, the man roughly dragged him to his living room. "I finally figured how to get rid of you forever! All my research finally paid off! I can finally avenge my wife and daughter. Nine Tailed Beast, I am going to get rid of you. Obliterate you! Banish you from this very world! The best part is that you will NEVER be able to come back!"

The man again started to laugh hysterically while binding Naruto with some rope and stuffing his mouth with a gag. Naruto struggled as hard as he could, trying to escape. But it was useless against a highly trained chunin. Tears of frustration welled in his eyes at his helplessness.

When the man was finished restraining him, he smiled sinisterly at him. "Finally, FINALLY, you will be gone, cease from being here, reminding everyone of what they lost! The beast will be gone from this world FOREVER!" The man laughed started to paint out a circle with foreign symbols on it. Naruto continued to struggle, desperately trying to escape when he saw this.

After what seemed like an eternity, the man finished the circle and set Naruto roughly onto it.

The chunin closed his eyes and started to clumsily form a series of chakra focusing hand signs. Naruto started to hyperventilate through the gag. He didn't want to die! He still had so many hopes and dreams. He was supposed to become Hokage one day! And then everyone would finally acknowledge and respect him! As a last ditch effort he started to struggle so hard that he made himself bleed, trying to somehow wiggle out of the ropes.

All too soon the man's eyes popped open and he smiled cruelly.

"Goodbye for good demon! I wish you the worse luck! Sekai suitchingu justu!"

The man slammed his hands down on the strange circle. At that exact moment, Jiji and three ANBU showed up. But it was too late. With a white flash Naruto was gone.

ooo

When Naruto opened his eyes he realized a few things.

One: He was no longer tied up.

Two: He was in a place that was completely white.

Three: There was a large, scary door in front of him.

Four: There was a weird black figure in front of him.

Correction, almost on top of him.

Naruto yelled and fell on his butt in surprise. "Who the hell are you?!"

The figure started to laugh. "I am so glad you asked that! I am called many things. I am the world. I am the universe. I am God. I am Truth. I am One. I am All. And most of all I am You." Naruto shivered as the figure continued to laugh. "Where are we?" Naruto timidly asked, still unsure what the figure meant. The white void was disorienting. The only noticeable landmark was the impossibly large door.

"Where we are at is the Gate, or in between. And you chibi are a stray, a stray sent by the ones who hate you. But which world to send you? What to take from you? Decisions, decisions…"The figure paused for a bit until he suddenly stood up. "An arm? Leg? How about some organs, hmm?" The figure paused a moment, contemplating. "No, none of those are right…Time…Time is perfect!" The figure smiled cruelly. "Equivalent exchange boy! Learn it! My toll will not be so nice the next time you visit." The figure made a gesture towards the large door. "I'm sure I'll see you again."

Naruto watched in horror as the strange door opened with a huge eye looked at him. The alien looking figure watched as Naruto stumbled back away from the ominous door. "Wait! Wait! What does that mean! What is this?!" said Naruto at the sight of the sheer multitude of black arms darting towards him.

At the sight of the strange door opening, something deep inside of him snarled at it. The black tentacles that had sprung out of the door latched onto him. Naruto screamed in desperation as the tentacles pulled him into the door.

As the door closed, his body felt like it was on fire, and his head felt like it was going to explode. Years of personal memories were locked into the back of his subconscious as his body shrunk. Everything burned painfully as transformation continued.

Unknown to him his intelligence and physical potential was increased, with his memories locked with his prisoner. The prisoner was slumbering, knocked out by the doors power. He would remain so until Naruto next saw the Truth.

ooo

The boy slowly regained consciousness. Slowly opening his eyes, he noticed the warm bed first. He rubbed at the bed, marveling at the softness. Rubbing the sleep from his eyes, the boy sat up looking around the unfamiliar room. It appeared to be a simple one. Looking to his left, there was a window. Outside it was beautiful rolling green hills. It sunny was well, not a cloud in the sky.

When he looked to his right he noticed boy. He was sleeping at the edge of the patient's bed in what looked like a very uncomfortable position. The boy looked young, maybe around four-years-old with short golden hair and fair skin.

As if the golden-haired child sensed his staring, he started to wake up. Sleepily opening his golden eyes, the child awoke. When he noticed his patient awake, he stood up and smiled excitedly.

"Oh you are awake now! Stay right here I will go get brother and Mom!" said the child while running out of the room. The patient confusedly stared after him.

He looked down at his young body, looking almost three-years-old. He had an oversized blue shirt and tan shorts on. He looked around the room. It was basic, just a single sized bed with a dresser, night stand, and a closet. All of which were made out of well-polished wood which happened to be the same color as the walls and floorboards. Before he could get up and explore a moment alone, a woman and two boys walked into the room.

"So you are awake. And here I thought Alphonse was just pulling my leg. So little guy, how are you feeling? Can you tell us your name?" said the kind looking woman. She had pretty brown hair and eyes, fair skin, and was about five foot four. Behind her were the two boys. At first Naruto first thought that they were twins, but when he looked closer he could tell one was older. The eldest brother was more protective of the smaller one, who by the way, was one who the patient had woken up next to. The boy –Alphonse was the name the woman had called him- was grinning ear to ear at him behind his big brother.

Alphonse looked the most like the kind woman, his mother the patient supposed. He had blond hair and brown eyes, while the eldest brother had blond hair and golden eyes. The brothers seemed to be very close by the way they acted.

The patient looked up at the woman who was patiently waiting for an answer. His name huh? He searched his mind for an answer. And then again when he couldn't find one.

Before the boy could answer, the eldest brother interrupted.

" Yeah and where did you come from? Me and Al found you passed out by the road and brought you here. Me and Al had to carry you and boy are you heavy-"

"Brother that's rude" said Alphonse, berating his brother with a look.

"Edward that's enough. Give him a minute." The woman said, looking sternly at Edward. Edward just grinned sheepishly while rubbing his hand through the back of his hair. The boys' mother looked back at the patient, waiting for answers.

The boy was thankful she had stopped him. With as fast as he was talking, it would be hard to get a word in. After searching his mind a third time, the boy became distressed. "I don't know," the boy answered pitifully. "Now that I'm thinking about it, I can't remember anything! Not my name, where I'm from, or anything!" His eyes began to tear up from the stress of not knowing.

He was getting overwhelmed. Where had he come from? He didn't remember passing out beside a road.

When the boy started to tear up, Edward started to panic, thinking it was his fault. Alphonse looked over at Edward accusingly. Edward knew the kid was younger than Al and him, he didn't mean to make him cry. "Ahhh don't cry! I didn't mean it! We will figure it out! Just please don't cry!" Edward said franticly, gesturing wildly, as if that would stop him from crying.

"But I can't remember! How do I not remember!"

"Shh shh, don't worry. Everything will work out. Listen, we will ask around town and see if anyone is missing a child and if not then you can stay here for as long as you want. I'd say you're around three years old at least so it shouldn't be hard to find your parents. And you might have hit your head, which would cause memory loss, ok? There is nothing to worry about." The woman said walking over and hugging him. Naruto through his arms around her neck and nuzzled he neck while she stroked his hair. 'She's so warm. And kind.' Naruto thought as he began to cry even more from that thought alone.

Ed and Al looked over at them. Al grabbed Ed's hand and pulled him over to the bed. Alphonse wrapped his arms around the two and after a few moments so did Edward.

Seeing how upset the situation made the boy, Trisha made a decision. "Would you like it if I gave you a name? That way we will have something to call you that is yours. Even if you can't remember your old one, you can make new memories with your new one. How does that sound? Is it okay?" Trisha asked gently, trying to cheer up the poor boy.

The boy looked up at her through tear-filled eyes and gave a little nod.

"Alight then…How about…Nicholas? That way you can have your very own nickname like Ed and Al. How does Nick sound, hmm?" she said smiling. The boy considered it and tried the name out a few times.

"Nicholas… Nicholas…Nick…yes, I like it. It sounds right." Nick sniffled. Then he smiled. It was a heartbreakingly beautiful smile. With blue eyes and golden hair like her sons, Trisha remarked mentally that Nick would fit right in with her boys. She sighed wistfully, briefly remembering her runaway husband.

"Let me go get dinner ready. Ed, Al, show Nick around the house." said Trisha as she made her way out of the room.

Both smiling excitedly, Ed and Al both grabbed an arm and ran with Nick dragging behind them.

After showing Nick the house tour, all four sat down to eat dinner. With Alphonse explaining Resembool and Edward promising to introduce him to their friend Winry, Nick began to feel at home. Although Nick was overwhelmed with the excitement of the day and the memory loss, he went to bed happy in what felt like the first time in a long time. Falling asleep quickly, Nicholas dreamed of warm hugs, welcoming smiles, and a hopeful future.

When Trisha went to check on the boys, she discovered something incredibly cute. With Nick sleeping in the middle of his bed, it appeared that Edward and Alphonse had snuck in and fell asleep on either side of Nicholas. She tucked them into bed with a fond smile and sat at the bed side.

She had the feeling that Nick would become her third son. With his cute blond spiky hair, blue eyes, and whisker like birthmarks, he would fit right in. Ed who was five, Al who was four, and now Nick who was three. Kissing each boy on the head, Trisha sighed. She wished her husband would come home soon. He would like Nicholas. She turned and walked out of the room, quietly shutting the door, while the three boys snuggled up.

Who would have guessed that these boys would face horrible tragedy so very soon?
