Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, Harry, Hermione, or anything else of any concern.
So I haven't done fanfic in two days, but I'm sorry! I did one on the fifth but I don't think anyone has viewed it yet =(. It was American Girl so not too many view those as much.
Anyway, this is just Harry/Hermione and it's in Goblet of Fire!
Hermione Granger ran through the crowd of students, trying to see where she was going. Everyone seemed to be going someplace, whether it was their common room or the Great Hall for a very early dinner.
It was chilly outside as she pushed past the crowd and emerged into the main grounds. She could see a figure down by the lake, and she ran towards it.
"Hermione," Harry said when he saw her. "Hey."
Hermione brushed her hair back and breathed in the silent air. "Hey," she said. "Aren't you a bit-scared? I mean, the task is tomorrow." It was hard to keep her voice from cracking.
"Yes," Harry admitted. "'Course. You sound scared, too, though."
Hermione blinked, suddenly almost angry. "Of course I am! I'm terrified for you!" It all came out in a rush. "You could die! Or worse! You don't know how it's going to happen and this isn't fair! You're not supposed to be competing and-"
Harry held up his hand, stopping her. "I don't know, okay?" he said. "What am I gonna do? Please, don't be so tense. I HAVE to do this."
But Hermione was through with being tense. She burst into tears and buried her face in her hands.
Harry looked uncomfortable, and also increasingly worried. "There's no reason to be so scared," he said nervously, in a more Hermione-ish manner then Hermione was being right now. "You can't do anything. I can't even. Mr. Crouch said it was a magical contract or something like that. Do you know what that means?"
Hermione looked up and wiped her eyes. "Oh, of course I do, Harry," she said miserably, yet in her usual fashion. "But it's not RIGHT that way. You're not even close to seventeen! And it's just-just awful you have to do this!"
Harry shrugged, kicking a rock into the water. "Maybe it won't be so bad. I mean, we have to be optimistic, don't we?"
There was a silence, broken only by the sounds of Hermione sniffling. Then, she slipped up next to him and said slowly, "You'll be careful, won't you, Harry? It's already going to be so dangerous you-you have to."
Harry turned to look at her and smiled slightly. "Obviously I'll be careful," he said. "I know how dangerous it is, Hermione. I don't want to do this either."
Hermione nodded. She gazed down at the lake, then at the people slowly making their way down to the lake , classes now over. "We should go," she said softly. "People are coming, and they'll be staring at you. And me crying."
But Harry just shook his head and slipped his arm around her. "That's fine," he said. "Let them stare. They'll be staring enough tomorrow."
Hermione began to sob at these words, and she buried her head in Harry's shoulder. "Oh, Harry, what are we going to do?" she whispered tearfully.
Harry sighed. "Be brave," he said. "We're just going to have to be brave."
Did you like it? I hope so!
Please review! I know it's really short but I have problems with that... I also plan to have an update for A Little Bit of Magic, one of my chapter stories tonight!
Linley =)
PS: I know it's actually the day before the dragon, but I liked the name...
