It was all a lie. A thousand years of existence and a thousand stories of betrayal. He had a thousand reasons to walk away, not believe in what they said, sweared upon, but his foolish heart took, accepted the tiny glimmer of hope. Because hope is what every man breeds on and hope breeds eternal misery.
After a thousand years, he finally had a shot at his own family, have something or someone of his own. What could be a relation closer to a man than the one with his child ?
When the witches told him about the child growing within Hayley was his. He denied it openly , tried to deny it in his mind. His mind drifted to Caroline. The one person he wanted and cherished the most. But this was his child. Who could he choose ?
But Caroline, she's a kind soul, the most forgiving person he's met. Surely she'd forgive him.
His child could be his shot at a family , an escape from eternal seclusion.
He had taken the shot even though it meant tolerating the wolf-girl he abhorred right then.
The single thought of his child gave him hope and he agreed to follow the witch's bidding , infiltrated Marcel's family, and was on the verge of destroying him and his reign.
But a shocking discovery stops him half way. Or was it shocking at all ?
He was a fool to fall for their trickery. A thousand years and he still didn't learn.
The baby was never his, of course a vampire could never procreate even if he was a hybrid, the original hybrid.
Betrayal never stung this bad. He saw red, a trail of bodies beginning with hayley and the witch was perhaps the most obvious out come.
How could they think they could fool him ? How long did they think they could keep him deluded ?
Fools, they were and a fool he was to believe them.
Why didn't it feel good ? What more did he have to endure ?
Elijah looks at him with pity, Rebekkah was crying softly in a corner. The baby was the one thing that brought them together , gave them hope .
He couldn't bear staying in their presence, and left. He needed to clear his head.
The tranquility of the park helped a little to soothe is raging heart.
"I thought I might find you here"
The voice shook him out if his thoughts, he jerked up and looked at her. Incredulity and surprise evident on his face.
"Caroline, what are you doing here ?"
"Stefan and I came to New Orleans, to look for you"
"Why ?"
" Silas" She said as a matter-of-factly.
"We heard" She said, her voice below a whisper, full of sadness and perhaps something more, care, maybe ?
He laughed bitterly.
"Did you come to offer your pity to me, love ? Then let me tell you, I don't need your pity, I don't need anyone. I am fine , those who dared to cross me are nothing more than a pile of rotting flesh"
"Klaus, I am not here to pity you . I though we were friends, friends don't let each other go through difficult times alone, they pull each other out from the darkest of times, stand by them" she came closer to him as she spoke.
"You forgive me ?" His voice full of surprise and disbelief.
She looked at him, confused.
"Honestly , I don't know, what should I forgive you for ? We're not liable to each other for our actions, though I was pretty shocked to hear about that, I mean its hayley, yuck"
He chuckled at her tone.
Maybe all was not lost. There might still be hope. Caroline was there with him, as his friend, promising to support him , perhaps ready to forgive him . Maybe one day, they'd be more, more than friends, but right then that was enough and he was finally at peace.
4x20 left us all broken hearted. This is how i want things to turn out. Atleast the part where it turns out that the baby's not Klaus's.
This was just a way to blow off steam. Forgive any sort of mistakes. Un-beta'd
