It was my first dragon flight. My soft brown wings grow strong through all this years and tonight I was ready. "Go ahead. Be brave." my parents were encouraging me. I walked to the edge of my nest. Below me there was a hole. A dark, deep, never ending gasp between me and my freedom. Despite all my practices I was scared.

The elders were holding to the old habit and as on any flight ritual on our mountain they light-up five torches around my nest. "…They represented the light heat in our hearts and the signs of first fire-breathing dragons, the first fire beasts, our ancestors that lived in our world. They were signs of proud, but also the signs of our power, which was given to us…" Our leader was in the middle of the elders and reading the last chapter of sacred book. When he will reach the last word I will fly. The other species have their rituals, which can be more dangerous than ours, but tonight I didn't want to be fire breathing beast anymore. I didn't want to do the test. As told before, I was scared.

But I had no choice. I am what I am. As I was getting ready, I was getting more and more believe in me. The look into the depts. The look into the certain death. The fear itself. They weren't important anymore. The dragon leader read the last word. I spread my wings. I nodded to the elders as the sign of courage.

Closing my eyes I listened to my breathing. Next thing I was supposed to do was to fly. I simply let go of my nest. Before I could notice I was in the air. As I looked to my home, I saw the fear I beat. I saw my family, my friends, they were cheering. My scales were shining in the moonlight, my wings fluttered. The leader nodded to me and the elders were smiling.

I passed my test.

After my first circle I returned to our mountain. I landed as light as feather. After any flight ritual, we had a feast. Tonight this feast was mine. We were talking, laughing and having fun.

This day will not be forgotten.

Dragons first flight, his experience - Beware! Imaginary world. ;) - (Also, this is my first story/one-shot so, as they always say, don't be too hard on me.) - Have fun and enjoy!
