Why do the strangest things have to happen whenever I'm around?
What's truly bizarre is that for once in my life, this surprise is one I am still not quite sure what to do about it. But I suppose I'm getting ahead of myself right now; my name is Percy Jackson, and I'm 17 years old. I am seen as a hero among the residents of Camp Half-Blood, a safe haven for special people like me for the summer where we prepare ourselves for the outside world, but all I really want is to live out a normal life with my girlfriend, Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena, Greek goddess of wisdom. Before you question my sanity, I can tell you with first-hand knowledge that the Greek Gods and Goddesses are quite real, and that all of mortal history is affected by the conflicts within the secret world filled with one too many pantheons. One such conflict was the Second Giant War, where a prophecy from Roman times detailed how seven demigods from the Greek and Roman worlds came together, even though both sides wanted nothing more than to rip out the throats of each other. Anyway, after six peaceful months to recover from those terrifying days when I came closest to dying, Zeus threw another curb ball into us demigod's lives. His son, Apollo, had been turned into a mortal thanks to his dad and now must save some Oracles from a gang of immortal Roman emperors who wish to conquer the world. Seriously, these twists would make a great book series. But then things started happening that will probably change in my life; for better or worse, I really can't say now.
It all started the morning after Camp Half-Blood managed to survive an attack by one such crazy Roman emperor named Nero and his Colossus Neronis, a statue Nero had built thousands of years ago in his image and the image of Apollo, his ancestor. Even though the demigods won thanks to some serious archers, the camp was severely devastated in the battle.
Despite this, the Hephaestus campers are in much better spirits than the other campers; mostly because their goofy member, Leo Valdez, managed to return to camp alive and well but got the treatment everyone has wanted to give him for months now. The only truly awkward moment of the sing-along that came the night after the battle was won was when he rode back into camp with Calypso, the daughter of Atlas Percy had been forced to leave on the island. For better or worse, they never got to talk with each other before the duo, accompanied by Apollo who really needs to tend to his serious case of acne and a new Demeter girl named Meg.
The morning after the attack and hours after the trio flew off to Indianapolis on the back of their metal dragon, Festus, the Hephaestus campers took it upon themselves to do their part in the repairing of camp, by tearing the Colossus Neronis's body apart and using its pieces to not only repair but upgrade the forge. Percy decided to lend them a hand, using his powers over the sea to lift the body out of the ocean.
The task only lasted an hour, and Percy let out a slight pant. Even after years of practice, exerting such control for extended periods of time is draining for the son of the sea god. Just as Percy's about to turn around and get a ride back home to his mom, he hears someone screaming. Everyone freezes in place, dread settling in. Percy gets back up and charges right through the camp and into the woods, burning brown as the fall season progresses.
Within minutes, Percy arrives at the scene of chaos. Five of the Hermes campers, caught in the middle of a shabby vine-made net, are between by two cyclopes, each of whom holding large wooden clubs in their hands. "Well, look what we got here." The much larger cyclops, which stands easily 15 feet tall, grins. Percy can't help but cringe at how brown his teeth are. The demigod then gets in close behind, pulling out his ballpoint pen; while Percy regrets what will happen, he has to help the children of Hermes. "Instead of finding our master, we find some delicate demigods."
"They do look delicious, bubby." The other cyclops of half his brother's height, says with an almost child-like tone, raising his club over the Hermes campers as they desperately try and hack the net open. Percy takes a deep breath then makes his move, stabbing the nearest monster in the calf as deeply as it could go. "Brawg!" He shouts, disintegrating into golden dust as the cyclops collapses.
"Run! I'll hold him off!" Percy shouts to the stunned campers who start getting up after successfully freeing themselves, and begin running towards the main camp grounds. The other cyclops bellows in rage and charges towards the son of Poseidon. "You missed, peabrain!" Percy shouts as he rolls between the cyclops's legs, avoiding a brutal vertical motion of the club that causes the ground to shake violently.
"Piss off, puny sea spawn!" The cyclops shouts as it turns around to try and grab Percy. The demigod just dodges to the side, stabbing the monster in the hand. As it lets out a bellow of agony, Percy then decides to do something incredibly crazy, even by his standards. He twirls Riptide in his hands and throws it like a spear at the cyclops, intent on stabbing it in its stomach. But due to Percy's inexperience with any long-range weaponry, Percy completely misses the stomach. Instead, it easily punches through the leathery loincloth and pierces a spot between the cyclops's legs.
Percy's eyes bulge in shock as the cyclops looks up to the sky, its eye wide and mouth open. It starts falling backwards and smashes into the ground with such force it causes a small earthquake. The cyclops lets out a moan before dissolving into golden dust. As the demigod stares at the ashes, wondering why a cyclops was so close to the camp's borders, he hears a rather mocking series of claps. "Curse you, Jackson."
The son of Poseidon feels a rush of coldness he has only felt from one being in his life, and becomes afraid. He turns around to stare at a rather gruesome sight. Standing on the edge of the clearing is a humanoid being about eight feet tall. Its brown skin is glowing with a gold light, with chunks of flesh missing here and there. But what made Percy a little freaked is that this being is missing a jaw and most of its hair is missing. "You?"
"Me. Do you have any idea how painful it was for me to reform as much as I have?" Kronos asks in Percy's mind as the Titan stares at him. "It matters not… what matters is what I will do when I leave this pitiful heap of mortal flesh and take you as my host! Anything's better than living in this mother-forsaken shell!" Kronos then holds out a hand and a golden image of the arm reaching out. Percy holds up Riptide, ready to attack. But as the arm gets within five feet of Percy, it suddenly dissolves into thin air. The corpse's arm suddenly falls limp at Kronos's side, the arm literally pulling itself out of the socket. "Ah!" Kronos exclaims. "Damn you to Tartarus, Jackson! I may be fading, but I can still cause your destruction!" He then cackles madly before glowing brightly. Percy tries to turn away from the light, but something forces him to stay in place.
Now, despite everything Percy's learned about an immortal's true form, he doesn't burn to ashes; instead, he sees flashes of clean buildings made of red stone and steel of different sizes illuminated by twinkling lights as large crowds bustle on the ground, then the scene changes to a young-looking soldier wearing skin-tight green armor running down a circular grey tunnel, away from something, before falling to the ground and looking up with terror as another silhouetted young man with messy hair wearing a thick jacket runs down the hall, a curved sword the length of Riptide in his left hand that is fuzzy to look at for some reason. As the shaded man whips a large handgun out from the jacket and pulls the trigger, the vision changes once more, this one filled with the image of a night-covered rocky field near a vast valley with massive explosions going off everywhere and soldiers wearing peculiar red armor that covers their entire bodies using strange rifles to fight people wearing grey armor with wings sprouting from the back and helmets that resemble terrifying yet differing faces as they use also use either rifles or their talons. All the while, Kronos lets out a shrill scream that chills Percy to his very soul.
But then, as soon as this situation started, it suddenly ends. The shrieks cease and the corpse collapses to the ground as a pile of steaming ashes. Golden specks fly into the air before scattering throughout the sky, flying past the trees. Stranger still, in the middle of the pile of ashes now lays a large silver-colored metal box. Percy realizes his hands are shaking for some reason, and after steadying them, walks over to the box and delicately inspects it. The box is a perfect square shape with a fine line wrapping around the middle, and on the top are several words deeply carved by ways Percy can't even guess. It states, 'July Barnes's Property. I Don't Call for Help, Grabber. So Scram…or Else.'
"Man, whoever this July Barnes is really likes this thing." Percy comments, trying to pick up the box. Despite its size, the box isn't nearly as heavy as Percy initially guessed. Just then, he hears something rushing towards him quickly. In a panic, Percy runs towards a nearby bush and sets the metal box inside, completely hidden from sight.
Seconds later, Will Solace, several Apollo campers, and Nico Di Angelo run into the clearing. "Are you alright, Percy?" Nico asks, sword in hand.
"Calm down, Nico." Percy says, lifting his hands up. "Just had to deal with some rogue cyclopes. Everything's totally cool now."
"I'm still going to make sure. Spread out!" Will shouts and the campers start looking around for any more monsters. After several minutes of finding nothing, the group heads back to the camp for the day. Despite Chiron's protests at first, he eventually agrees to let Percy call his mom to tell her that he will have to stay at camp for the night after a monster attack on the camp's border has everyone stressed.
As night falls upon the vast fields, Percy remains wide awake and lying on his soft bed in the middle of Cabin 3. The confrontation with the Lord of Time was so sudden and then there's that mysterious metal box, owned by some overly-protective person who is possibly from the future. Percy wonders if this is what Pandora felt when she was given the bronze jar.
After two hours of trying to get to sleep, Percy gets an idea. He'd consult one of the dryads or anyone else to see what exactly it is and if it would pose any threat to Camp Half-Blood. With a new-found resolve, Percy sits up and gets out of bed. He walks towards the window of his cabin and crawls out after opening it. He lands on the ground and starts making his way through the camp.
As he creeps his way back into the woods, numerous campers in full Greek battle armor are on full patrol. Percy winces slightly as he passes Sherman Yang, Clarisse La Rue's successor as head of Cabin 5, laughing loudly with Connor Stoll. Both of them are laughing loudly at something while drinking from large bottles of wine. Despite the increased security, Percy manages to return to the forest and to where the confrontation took place. He looks around the clearing anxiously for the metal box he left behind.
"Where did it go?" Percy whispers to himself, fear starting to kick in. What if it's a box containing a curse that could destroy camp? Or a scroll containing another prophecy which would determine the fate of the world? As Percy's search becomes more frantic, he hears someone whistle behind him. Frantically, he whirls around and sees Juniper leaning against a tree with concern. "Oh, Juniper. What are you doing so far from your tree?"
"Worried." Juniper replies wistfully. "I am worried about the camp, Percy. First, we dealt with titans, then giants. Now we have Roman emperors after us?"
"It will be fine, Juniper." Percy replies, trying to be reassuring. "I'm just looking for something."
"You mean that strange box?" Juniper asks, then walks into the bushes. Percy follows before seeing the item once more. "It is a peculiar thing. Lou Ellen and the Hecate campers know more magic than anyone else I know, but despite my using all the magic detection spells they've told me about, there's nothing. But it is what's inside that is really weird."
That caught Percy's attention immediately. "You opened it?"
Juniper blushes slightly. "Yes, but it took so much effort and I seem to have broken the lock in the process."
Now things are getting interesting. Percy quickly makes his way towards the box and pulls the lid off. What laid inside was the last thing Percy expected to see. Inside is full of a thick green gel-like substance and sitting in the middle are three small cases, each resembling the cases which hold the old Sega Genesis games he's seen at the Big House, as well as a rolled-up piece of paper the size of a poster. The cases bear a scarlet background, with a black splotch in the middle that suspiciously looks like blood; in the center of that is a title written in white that Percy will remember for the rest of his life: Death Battle! The other two are obviously additions, with the one on the left being the official soundtrack while the one on the right is bonuses.
Delicately, Percy places his hands inside and pulls out the middle case that lays inside. He opens it up, revealing a single plain disc. In that moment, Percy decides to do something absolutely stupid. "Juniper." Percy starts, "Do you mind if you could put this box in my cabin? I'm going up to the Big House to check this out."
Juniper nods in understanding while Percy takes the case with him back to camp. Trying to evade the campers this time was much easier, now that the night is progressing. Not even Nico is awake at this hour. The son of Poseidon weaves his way through the cabins and up to the Big House. Normally, Percy would have to watch out for the Director of Camp Half-Blood, a wise centaur named Chiron, but he had left hours before for a meeting about what should be done regarding Triumvirate Holdings.
Percy opens the door to the Big House and silently closes it behind him. He tip-toes through the numerous possessions before making it to the only TV at camp, inside a separate sound-proof room on the backside of the house. Percy finally opens the case, revealing the disc and a manual for the show. He ignores the manual, as his dyslexia and ADHD would kill him, and pulls it out and slips it into the disc player resting in the cabinet the TV is sitting on. Percy turns on the TV and gets himself comfortable on a nearby chair.
The TV only shows static for a long moment. Seconds later, sparks fly out of the disc player. Percy jumps back and is about to pull the disc out, but then, it suddenly stops. The screen then changes to a bloody field, with spikes along the ground, and the name 'Death Battle! The Complete Collection!' is emblazoned in the middle while epic music is playing in the background*. This music is already getting Percy pumped for whatever awaits him on the disc.
After Percy pushes start, he selects the 'Episodes' button. Within a second, a long menu caption pulls up, revealing the contents of the disc. Curiously, Percy scrolls through and what he sees at the end of the list makes his eyes go wide. "Over a hundred episodes…wow." Percy murmurs, then starts scrolling through to see the options. "Carnage vs. Lucy, who in the name of the gods is Lucy?" Percy pauses for a moment, considering watching it, before he shakes his head. "Nah. Now, let's see some others. Metal Sonic vs. Zero, Amy Rose vs. Ramona Flowers, Solid Snake vs. Sam Fisher…" He continues scrolling through the first set of episodes before his eyes fall on one particular episode.
"Luke Skywalker vs. Harry Potter, huh?" Percy says, looking at the image of a brown-haired man wearing a black cloak while holding a glowing green blade next to an image of another man about Percy's age with black hair, green eyes behind a pair of glasses, and holding a stick. For some reason, this episode reminds Percy of the Kane siblings he met some months ago. A wide grin forms on Percy's face; he is quite familiar with Luke Skywalker and the Star Wars movies, at least the originals. He has also heard many things about the Harry Potter series, but knows almost nothing about it. "So, this is a show that pits known characters together from different franchises to see who is superior. Let's give it a go!" He then pushes play.
After another moment of static and a spark flying from the celestial-bronze-made DVD player, the episode began playing with a white screen that just says 'Carbonite.'
"This episode of Death Battle's brought to you by Carbonite!" A man says seconds later, making Percy jump slightly. The man who made that announcement sounds like a rather interesting fellow.
Then, after a brief animation about some company Percy's never heard of called Revision 3, it begins. It starts with the theme that played on the menu screen, but this title has blood flying across the screen, with sharp spikes along the bottom half of the screen while numerous chains dangle from above. And emblazoned in the middle is the blood-spattered title 'Death Battle.' Despite the scene's gruesomeness, the demigod feels more hyped to watch it than ever before.
"Every generation has idolized a sci-fi hero." A different man says while images of retro-looking shows flash on the screen.
"Like Luke Skywalker, legacy of the Jedi."
"Or Harry Potter, the Boy-Who-Lived." Percy stares at the image of this Harry Potter riding a…broomstick? As much as Percy is excited to learn how he earned his title, the demigod can't help wondering how exactly Harry Potter qualifies as a sci-fi hero.
"He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick!" Percy barely fights down a fit of laughter at how ridiculous their names are.
"And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to see who would win…a Death Battle!" As soon as Wiz finishes the proclamation, as well as show the two-dimensional setting in a sci-fi city, only gets Percy even more excited to see what will happen.
The Death Battle screen clangs together before splitting apart, revealing an image of Luke holding his old lightsaber against Darth Vader. "As the orphaned son of Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker carries the blood of the most powerful Sith Lord ever known." Percy winces, already feeling sympathy for Luke. As much as Percy tries to look past it, he can't help but feel slightly reminded of how his father, Poseidon, left him and his mom alone. Though he's also grateful his father is much more tolerable in comparison to other stuck-up gods, such as Ares.
Luke Skywalker Background:
Height: 5' 7"
Weight: 169 lbs.
Raised as a Farmer
Right Prosthetic Hand (Percy winces once more, remembering quite well how Luke lost that hand)
Son of Anakin Skywalker, the Chosen One
Married to Mara Jade
"He was raised by his aunt and uncle, who kept him safe as disguising his true powers, before being taught by a wise old mentor in the ways of the Force."
"Luke's weapon of choice is the lightsaber, a combination of my two favorite killin' tools: swords and lazers**!"
Percy can already guess that Wiz is the structured, straight-forward announcer of the show while his partner, Boomstick, is a trigger-happy lunatic who only loves weapons and killing people. As much as Percy despises the thought of killing any mortals, he has to admit Boomstick sounds like he will be quite entertaining to listen to.
Lightsaber:
Custom Built (Percy is reminded of the Hephaestus cabin; man, would those guys have a field day on this)
Approx. 4 Ft. Blade
Cuts Through Most Objects (Hephaestus himself would probably do anything to build this)
Based on Kenobi's Saber (Percy remembers Kenobi as the mentor who taught Luke)
Expends No Heat or Energy Until Physical Contact
Uses Form V [Djiem So]
"Despite little formal training, Luke advanced in lightsaber combat much faster than any other Jedi."
"He took down a friggin' TIE Fighter with it, only a month after he blew up the Death Star. What a badass!"
Percy quite agrees with Boomstick's summary of Luke, and he is still grinning like a crazy man.
"Luke is a master of Form Five; Djiem So. An aggressive combat stance with defensive posture, specializing in both perseverance and pressuring an opponent."
Great, now Percy really wants his childhood hero to teach the watching demigod some of those fighting styles now; they sound so practical.
"Despite what you might think, the lightsaber isn't just for killing; it also works pretty damn well for defense." Percy watches in awe as Luke not only blocks laser blasts from what is essentially a floating motorcycle, but also slices its guns off.
"Even so, Luke's most instrumental tool is his unrivaled connection to the Force."
The Force:
Surrounds All Living Things (Percy feels greatly reminded of the Mist)
Control – Manipulating the aspects of one's body
Sense – Recognizing & immersing in environment
Alter – Manipulating subjects & environment
"He can apply it in three aspects: Control, Sense, and Alter. Controlling all aspects of the body, sensing and utilizing his surroundings, and altering the environment."
"Like the mind trick thingy. Oh, ho, man. The terrible things I would do with that."
"No, Boomstick. I don't want to know." Percy says, already guessing what Boomstick has in mind and dreading it.
Force Powers:
Force Persuasion
Increased Senses
Increased Speed & Strength
Force Choke
Telekinesis
Shatterpoint (That sounds even more ominous to the demigod than the other abilities)
"When injured or exhausted, he can push his physical limits with the Force Body ability, and use Flash Burn to neglect pain until he can mend his wounds with Force Heal."
"Also, Luke uses the Force to push things with his mind, with almost no limits."
"Finally, Luke can use Shatterpoint to identify any possible weakness or fracture in a subject." Percy shivers slightly, as that ability seems much more intense than the other insane things he's heard in this one episode. "Add just a little pressure with the Force…"
"And boom! They explode faster than a firestone tire!" The screen then shows several droids getting blown up by an unseen Force.
Percy tilts his head, not really understanding the reference. But it sounds like a useful yet creepy ability nonetheless.
"Luke has defeated a wide variety of foes, ranging from stormtroopers to deadly Sith Lords; one of which Luke had to construct a second lightsaber to beat."
"Really?" Percy asks in surprise, not knowing this.
Shoto Lightsaber:
Shorter, Red Blade
Approx. 2 ft. Blade
Used in Lar'Kai Form ("The what now?" Percy asks in confusion)
Used Sparingly
"His shorter red shoto saber was made to counter the Sith Lumiya's Light Whip. And it worked pretty damn well."
"He still carries it, though still prefers a single blade over two-handed combat."
"Heh, heh, penis joke, Wiz." Percy snorts loudly at the sudden outburst. "Anyway, Luke doesn't have any obvious weaknesses, aside from some pretty serious daddy issues." Percy can't help but understand what Luke must go through when it comes to his relationship with Darth Vader. "Luke doesn't carry a blaster, but unlike other STUPID Jedi, he isn't afraid to use one."
"While Luke is no fan of violence, he certainly will not pull any punches."
"Tell that to the Ares Campers, Wiz." Percy comments before resuming the episode.
The screen then shows a black-clothed Luke, standing defiant to an unseen foe. "I am a Jedi. Like my father before me." Luke says, raw determination practically radiating from him.
That concludes Luke Skywalker's analysis, and the first one on the series Percy has ever seen. The demigod learned a great deal about his hero and the extent of his abilities. Though now he is more aware of the more supernatural aspects, he is more aware of what Luke is capable of, and what it must take to control it. Overall, Luke left a positive impression on Percy and he looks forward to the fight that is coming up.
The theme panels slide together, before parting and revealing the black-haired boy riding on a floating broomstick. While Percy still tries to get over that bizarre scene, the boy notices a golden ball with wings and starts chasing after it.
Harry Potter Background:
Height: N/A [Tall] (Percy can't help but a laugh a little at how vague that answer is)
Weight: N/A [Skinny] (And this one too)
Born July 31st, 1980
Half-Blood Wizard (that confuses Percy; is Harry a demigod as well as wizard?)
Accidentally Cursed to Carry Voldemort's Powers
Married to Ginny Weasley
"As an orphan, Harry Potter carries the talents of the most powerful dark wizard ever known, Lord Voldemort."
"Bless you." Percy says quickly once he hears Harry's archrival's name. The screen then shows a pale-skinned man missing a nose wearing black robes and pointing a stick to the sky as bright light emits from its tip. Percy guesses these sticks that these wizards utilize are not to be trifled with.
"He was raised by his aunt and uncle who kept him safe by disguising his true powers before being taught by a wise old mentor in the ways of magic."
"Why does that sound familiar?" Percy asks sarcastically.
"Now why does that sound familiar?"
"I just said that. Stop mimicking me!" Percy shouts at the TV screen. He realizes what he did, and blushes slightly.
"Harry wields an eleven-inch Phoenix core holly wand."
Wand:
Length: 11 in.
Make: Holly
Core: Phoenix Feather
Described as "Nice & Supple"
Brother to Voldemort's Wand ("Wait, what?" Percy exclaims)
"He has learned numerous spells, and is exceptionally skilled in charms."
Charms:
Expelliarmus [Disarm]
Confundus [Confuses]
Stupefy [Stuns]
Protego [Protects]
Patronus [Shields from Dark Creatures]
Accio [Summons Objects] (Percy feels reminded of his faithful weapons, Riptide. Maybe it has this charm on it, who knows)
"His trademark attack is the disarming charm. Expellaraptimus, or whatever."
Percy chuckles at the announcer's butchering of the Latin word.
"Expelliarmus."
"Which can either knock a weapon away or throw an opponent through the air."
"Wait, wait?" Percy says, pausing the video. "A disarming charm to throw weapons away, that's very useful. But how does it throw people aside as well?" A long moment pauses before Percy shrugs and continues the episode.
"The Confundus charm temporarily confuses the target, Stupify stuns people, and the shield charm protects Harry from all attacks."
"And he can summon anything he wants to him with Ackio. Uh-um. Ackio money! Ackio loose women! …Damn it."
At that point, Percy is increasingly cracking up. Despite Boomstick's blatant idiocy, Percy can't help but feel like Boomstick is the resident comic relief and respects him for it.
"His Firebolt is a racing broom that can reach 150 miles an hour in less than 10 seconds."
Percy's jaw drops at how fast a broomstick of all things can go. The other demigods like the Apollo campers could love to use stuff like this in the camp races. Jason especially would love this broomstick.
Firebolt Broomstick:
0 to 150 mph in 10 seconds (Percy is blown away by those numbers)
Braking Charm
Perfect Balance
Streamlined Ash
Individually Selected Twigs of Aerodynamic Perfection ("For a broomstick?" Percy can't help wondering)
"That's even faster than Wiz getting' shot down by a woman!"
Percy snickers harder than before trying to keep the laughter at bay and steadily failing.
"Right! …Wait, no! Back to spells!"
The demigod laughs hysterically, pausing the episode once more so he can spend the next five minutes laughing harder than he's ever had in a long time. Once Percy recovers, he wipes the last tears away and resumes.
"Harry's also experienced in curses."
Curses:
Reducto [Destroys Objects]
Sectumsempra [Slashes] (That spell sounds rather ominous to the demigod)
Oppugno [Objects Attack]
Imperio [Controls Minds]
Crucio [Causes Pain]
Avada Kedavra [The Killing Curse] (This one sends a deep shiver down Percy's spine)
"He destroys objects with Reducto, slashes enemies with Sectumsempra, and controls minds with Imperious."
"And then there's the Killing Curse, Abra Kadabra."
"Sounds ominous." Percy mutters, worried about that last spell especially and its potential to kill anything, possibly even demigods, upon contact. He really hopes the magicians like the friend he briefly met, Carter Kane, haven't invented a spell like that.
"Avada Kedavra."
"Oh. So that magician WASN'T tryin' to kill me. I guess I should probably go apologize to his family."
Percy pauses the episode to let what Boomstick said sink in, even rewinding a few seconds to make sure he heard right. Then he shakes his head. "Boomstick, you're really dumb." With that out of the way, he presses on.
"While Harry's never actually used the Killing Curse, it is implied he can. It is an instant kill and unblockable."
"Unless it hits a wall. Or a sword. Or… anything really."
"Overhyped." Percy comments, agreeing with Boomstick on how the 'unblockable' trait is absolute bogus.
"Almost all magic requires a line of sight and eye contact to perform. The Killing Curse is no exception."
"Harry also knows appar-teleporting, which he can do without a wand."
Apparition:
Teleportation (Man, Percy wishes he could do that. It would really save on gas money for his Toyota. Maybe he should experiment with that sometime.)
Instantaneous
Does not Require a Wand
Possibly Easier to Do with a Wand
"His training in Occlumence defends his mind from any sort of mental attack or illusion."
Occlumency:
Prevents Mind Control & Mind Reading
Has Not Mastered, but is Adequate
Unconventionally Uses a Fond Memory as a Shield
"And he's got all sorts of other spells, but I seriously doubt the Tickle Charm's going to help him much in the fight, so let's move on."
"Tell me more!" Percy shouts, pausing once more. "Trivial stuff like that can get you a surprise advantage on any enemy. At least, I'd use it if I was in Harry's shoes." But after a second, he decides to let it go and continue playing.
"Harry owns the Cloak of Invisibility, an unrelenting Deathly Hallow that hides the wearer from sight and cannot be detected."
Cloak of Invisibility:
The Third Deathly Hallow (Percy wonders what the relevance of that is)
Does Not Wear Out
Hides the Wearer
Cannot be Detected Unless the Wearer Allows It
"Unless he makes a noise. Or pokes his foot out."
"Don't care about that. Where can I get one?" Percy asks excitedly, as something like that could be extraordinarily helpful.
"Harry is a quick draw with his wand, and has performed many great feats at very young ages."
Percy then watches as a twelve-year-old Harry stabs a silver blade studded with rubies through the roof of an enormous snake. Percy nods, quite impressed with Harry. For some strange reason, he feels a strong kinship with the young wizard.
"He has also mastered non-verbal spells."
"By the time he was 17, he was beating up way more experienced wizards. In the Battle for Hogwarts, he had no problem kicking a whole ton of Death Eater ass. Not to mention Lord Voldemort."
A wide-eyed Percy pauses the video at the scene where Voldemort is disintegrating. "Hold up. Hogwarts, Death Eater? Who came up with those names, especially no-nose's?" Percy demands while chuckling slightly at how bizarre those names are. He then decides to shrug it off and continue on.
"Afterwards, Harry became head of the Dark Wizard Hunting Auror office. Even though he's technically a Hogwarts dropout."
"Relax. You're not missing much." Percy states flatly, partly because it's school; but also, who wants to be schooled at a place named after a… a… for some strange reason, Percy gains a sense of déjà vu, as if he has said this thousands of times before. In the end, he decides to shrug it off.
"He never did finish that seventh year. But, I guess if you've killed the lord of ultimate evil, you get a GED. Lucky bastard."
Percy then watches as Harry waves his wand at a small flame inside of a glass jar.
"Crudicio!" Harry mutters with boredom. Then, the flame in the jar erupts into an inferno that reaches the top of the ceiling. "Reducio!" He then shouts, causing the flame to return to normal.
Just then, the Death Battle logo clangs together before pulling apart and revealing various images of Luke Skywalker and Harry Potter. "Alright, the combatants are set. Let's end this debate once and for all. But first, let's recommend Carbonite."
"For all your Han Solo freezing needs."
"Uh, no, Boomstick. It's a website."
"What?"
Then, as the announcers describe the purpose of the website, Percy takes in all of the information he has gleaned on these two characters. Percy admires Luke very much, especially what he's been through, but he also can't help but relate to Harry Potter more. Everything he's been through at a similar age to Percy, it really left a deeper impression on him.
Once Percy makes his bet on Harry winning the match, he focuses on the episode as the ad finishes. "But right now, it's time for a Death Battle!"
The logo then clangs together before pulling apart. The scene revealed is a futuristic city, with Luke standing in the corner. Then Harry walks on screen before pulling out his wand. In response, Luke pulls out his lightsaber and activates the green blade.
It's time to see which of these two warriors is superior. The giant red word, which simply says 'Fight!' appears on the screen. "Fight!" The word then goes away and the battle begins.
Harry: "Avada Kedavr—"
He is then interrupted by Luke holding out his cybernetic hand. It glows with a bright blue light, just like Harry's head does. After a long moment, the light dissipates from around Harry's head, and he lifts up his wand.
Harry: "Avada Ked—"
The wizard is then blown away by a Force Push sent by Luke. The Jedi leaps through the air, ready to slice Harry in half. The second Harry lands on the ground, he dissipates into thin air.
Luke looks around for the wizard, who reappears right behind Luke. A spell sent from Harry and another Force Push collide with each other, cancelling out the attacks. Harry then sends two more non-verbal spells, followed by a barrage of spells. Luke leaps over the beams of magic. But as he tries once more to slice through Harry, he apparates again. Once more, Harry appears behind Luke.
Harry: "Expelliarmus!"
He then sends another barrage of spells. This time, Luke manages to block the spells before sending another Force Push; as a result, Harry's wand goes flying out of his hand and clatters on the metal ground several feet away. Luke goes in for an overhead slice this time, but finds out Harry doesn't need his wand to apparate.
He reappears next to his wand, which he scoops up.
Harry: "Accio Firebolt!"
Luke then approaches Harry and throws his lightsaber at Harry.
Harry: "Protego!"
The shield charm then pulls up, clashing with the lightsaber. It spins in the air before Luke reaches up and grabs it. Unfortunately for the Jedi, he is right in the flight path for the speeding broom and knocks Luke back to the ground.
Harry then runs alongside the broom before grabbing it. He hoists himself onto the broom and flies high into the air. He shoots a surprise spell at Luke, who is knocked back slightly by the blast. Once Luke recovers, he manages to block every spell Harry sends his way every time the wizard dives down to attack.
At this point, Luke has had enough and holds up his hand. It glows once more, and that same light surrounds Harry. Percy sits forward, wondering what in the world will happen next.
Luke then uses the Force to pull Harry back to the ground, causing a massive dust cloud and the sound of snapping wood can be heard. As Harry apparates away, he starts to disappear into thin air.
The plan is clear.
Harry: "Confundo!"
The spell strikes Luke, and the Jedi throws his lightsaber high into the sky.
Harry: "Stupefy!"
Of course, Luke breaks from the curse long enough to dodge the spell. He grabs the green lightsaber and sends out a massive Force wave. Instead of using the lightsaber again, Luke uses the Force Choke technique. Harry then hangs several feet in the air, surrounded by a red light and obviously choking violently.
Taking advantage of the opening, Luke throws his lightsaber at the open wizard. Harry, noticing the incoming green blade, sends a non-verbal Reducto curse at it. To Percy's awe, the spell manages to blow up the lightsaber. The flying shrapnel causes Luke to duck, freeing Harry from the Force technique. As Harry slowly gets back up, he prepares to end the fight.
Harry: "Avada Kedavra!"
Luke manages to roll under the spell. As Harry throws more spells Luke's way, music is playing in the background that is getting Percy even more ecstatic. Luke manages to block each spell Harry sends; except one.
Harry: "Sectumsempra!"
This spell manages to hit Luke, and cause a deep gash in Luke's side. The now-angry Jedi pushes through the pain and tries a different Force technique. The screen then zooms onto Harry's forehead, where a scar shaped suspiciously like a lightning bolt is shown. Within seconds, the scar starts cracking along the corners before being ripped open. Blood spews everywhere as Harry screams in pure agony.
Luke then lifts up his other hand, and another lightsaber lifts itself off Harry's belt. The red blade activates and thrusts itself through the air. Before Harry can do anything, it impales him right in the stomach. He falls to the ground, blood still oozing from his forehead. Then, he goes still.
"K.O.!"
Percy stares at the screen with wide eyes. Not only did the person he expected to win get killed, but he died in a rather gruesome manner. The demigod has no doubt he will be having a few nightmares about that end result.
The death battle panels clang together before pulling apart.
"Man, Harry did a surprisingly good job keeping Luke at a distance."
"But Luke fought smart, and tried to finish Harry quickly with Force Persuasion. But Harry was able to resist thanks to Occlumency."
"Then Luke used Force Choke to stop Harry from casting spells."
"And although Luke could dodge the Avada Kedavra, the instantaneous Sectumsempra caught him off-guard. But with Shatterpoint, Luke discovered an exploitable flaw."
"That famous lightning bolt scar! Which 'forced' Harry to lose the battle."
"The winner is… Luke Skywalker."
As credits and the final logos roll, Percy lets what he just witnessed sink in. Honestly, he was pretty confused as to what caused the scar to explode, but to see Shatterpoint in action really makes Percy shiver.
Overall, Percy loves the fight, and now he really wants to learn more about the series Harry Potter comes from. Once the episode's over, he turns off the TV, pulls the disc out and puts it back into the box. He looks at the case hard, and realizes the dire situation he's put himself into.
In any normal situation, Percy should report this to Chiron once he returns and everything goes back to normal; for his standards. But that also would mean Percy would probably never see another episode again. And as much as it's baffling too him, he's never had so much fun watching a game show in his whole life.
So, that leaves the question clear: should he tell anyone about his find or keep it a close secret?
After a long and silent moment, Percy makes his decision.
AN: Hey, everybody! This is my first take on this idea, and we'll see if I do more of it.
This story is starting off after the Hidden Oracle and before the Hammer of Thor, which comes before the Dark Prophecy.
I got introduced to the idea this year thanks to people doing takes on epicvoctory2025's idea of RWBY reacting to Death Battle, and I thought it was surprisingly novel, so I decided to take a stab at it. Just my own version of it, incorporating elements I have heard of something very special I have been told about by a close friend of mine; while he has been really nice about me modifying some of his ideas and using them, I have no idea what he has in mind for the more in-depth details of the story are or how long it will take to be written and published. Now, I could add extra scenes or script to the series as well, but we'll see on that.
Just so everyone knows, I will not be posting the main rules as anyone who has seen the show should know how they work. If not, other authors who wrote this story have it.
*Yes, his is Invader by Jim Johnston, the original Death Battle theme. And no, I will not be inserting the names of the songs into this or any future chapters; I might one day, but we'll see. Just a quick-heads up.
**I'm sorry, Rooster Teeth fans, but I had to make that joke.
Anyway, I get that the POV in this chapter was weird for me to write, but I assure you, if I do more, it will get much better. And while I am considering making this my official Halloween special series, whether I continue this or not is up in the air.
See you all next time in my next story, if I don't do any more.
PS: Please don't report this story. Percy Jackson and the whole overarching series goes to Rick Riordan, Death Battle goes to good old Screwattack; keep up the great work, guys! Oh, and while on the topic of disclaimers, any characters from other franchises here belong to their respective owners. I gain nothing from this but the pleasure of seeing how demigods would react to pop culture icons clashing in this series that represents my adolescence, and celebrating its 100th episode.
