The shrill sound of large beeps and whistles came from Jill Kowta's headphones, but she didn't mind. She was used to her job, and instead of covering her ears focused on trying to decode the First Orders encrypted transmissions. The resistance had just intercepted a transmission line, and all hands were on deck as decoders, technicians, and pilots alike scrambled to jot down notes shout out messages and pass on news. So far Kowta had nothing. The long high pitched notes were nothing from a droid, but more like a tone deaf person trying to sing in single notes. Kowta jabbed her pen tip into the paper next to her, frustrated with herself. It was a rare event to intercept a whole line, but without knowing what it meant, she was useless to the Resistance. In her head she began to give up, but then she heard something new. The beeps turned into actual words. Not droids but humans. It was not basic, but Guildoo, the old language from the outer rim. She only knew a few words ,but she wrote them down as if her hand itself was on fire; The Girl;Captured.;Base. Then the man recited a series of numbers so quickly Kowta could only listen helplessly knowing she could never get them all down. Still, she thought to herself, she had something. She ripped off the top page of her notes and ran to her superior. Captain Vaa was talking with the general and had a serious look plastered on his face, but Kowta knew she had to interrupt them. What if the transmission was important?
"Captain Vaa", she called out. The taller man swiftly turned her way."We intercepted a transmission", she stated and thrust her hand forward with the four small words on it. Vaa took them eagerly, and Kowta assumed he was just as frustrated with the lack of results as she was. He nodded at her in a sign of dismissal, but as she walked away she could hear him speak to the general,
"Ma'am, you need to see this".
