Looking up into the cold dark night Maggie wrapped her arms around herself and hugged tightly.

Another year was about to go by and she was sitting out it the cold; inside the house, her girlfriend's house, a party was going strong.

She'd never been one for parties to many strangers and forced socialization.

She heard there door creek open then smiled in spite of herself, "Hey Spooky I thought I was worried I wouldn't find you for another year."

It was her ridiculously upbeat girlfriend Luan.

"What are you doing out here by yourself?" Luan asked a bit of concern showing in her face.

Maggie sighed and shrugged "I just needed a moment to myself."

"Oh," Luan said quietly, "I can go back in if you want."

"No!" Maggie said a bit louder than she'd mean to, "I mean you can stay if you want."

"One minute," Luan raised a finger, "Don't move I'll be back before the year ends."

Watching Luan leave Maggie didn't have to wait long before she returned with a blanket.

Throwing the blanket around Maggie Luan cuddled up next to her, and lay her head on her shoulder.

"I don't get why everyone gets excited about our dumb rock circling the sun again every year," Maggie said trying to explain her apathy, "It's not like anything really changed."

"Well," Luan said looking Maggie in the eyes,"I didn't have you in my life last year."

She was quite for a moment then Maggie said, "Well if you put it that way."

Suddenly whipping out her phone Luan interrupted the moment, "Thirty seconds to go twenty nine."

Maggie couldn't help but laugh she didn't know how this ridiculous kooky girl had entered her life but she couldn't imagine life without her.

When Luan hit one she shouted happy New Year and took out a little horn and started blowing.

Grabbing the horn Maggie through it into the snow drift in front of house then wrapping her arms around Luan she kissed.

In the science that followed she whispered, "happy new year."
