He stopped walking when his feet hit grass. Dropping his bag he collapsed to the ground with a groan.

His father had accidentally crossed a group of thugs the night before. They followed him home and broke into his house. His mom was able to get him out of one of the broken windows before they got into his bedroom. But it seemed like someone was expecting that. As he ran for help, he got jumped and left for dead.

By the time he made it back to his house, it had been ransacked. His parents were gone, and so were all the valuables. He threw some clothes in a bag and took off, not wanting to see anymore.

After spending all night in the rain, he felt cold and scared. He was only thirteen, for crying out loud.

He curled into himself, hating how weak he felt. If only he was stronger, he could have protected his family. Now they were Shuggazoom knows where, probably hurt frightened. He wanted to do something, but there was nothing he could do to help them.

"Hey boss, isn't that the little brat that out away?"

His head jerked up, shock visible on his features. The guys that attacked Mom and Dad… They are coming here?

"Yeah. Grab the little punk."

A group of men were running up the hill towards him. He scrambled to his feet, struggling to make it up and over the hill before they got to him. He didn't make it.

A hand grabbed the collar of his shirt, pulling him back and tossing him to the ground. Punches and kicks rained down on him.

"You got two choices, punk," the leader growled, shaking him hard. He bit back a groan. "You run, and swear to never come back, or we kill you now. What's it gonna be?

"Run," he forced out painfully, his throat opposing the word.

"Good. Start running." He was thrown to the ground, and the group stocked away. He grabbed his bag and kept his promise. He ran from the city. And ran right into a moss-covered giant robot.
