Homies Help: Silence Is Golden

"Pacifica, what have you done?" Preston Northwest growled, but not too loudly. Of course, Pacifica thought; wouldn't want to risk his precious reputation. Not that that would help, she thought, trying to hide her smirk. He'd practically dragged her back here by her wrist in plain view after she pointed a butler to the mess she and Dipper had made.

Dipper. She wasn't sure what it was, but he seemed different than before. Maybe it was that he wasn't giving her that smart-mouthed smirk while they traded barbs as usual, or that he was what she now considered one of her only true friends. Of course, there was also how tall and lithe he looked in that tux and how she could see his face better without that hat –

"Is something funny?" Preston asked, now glaring dangerously at her. With that, it had come to Pacifica's attention that she'd started smiling at her thoughts. She immediately straitened up and returned her father's cold stare.

"I saved all our lives." Pacifica answered, making a point to speak loudly, if only to spite her parents. "If it wasn't for me, everyone –"

Pacifica's heart gave a leap when Preston pulled out the bell. Forgetting how she'd overcome it before, all she could think about was how it was used earlier that night. In front of Dipper. It had been humiliating.

She clinched her eyes and braced herself, preparing for that haunting ring. Truth be told, she had long forgotten what the ringing meant; all she knew was that she didn't like it and the only way to make it stop was to submit.

Nothing happened.

Pacifica opened one eye to see her father waving the bell like made, giving it a frustrated look before looking inside it. She backed up a couple steps, when his eye started twitching in rage, and she flinched when he threw the thing on the ground and stalked away. Her mother followed after him.

Too confused to be relieved, Pacifica picked up the bell and looked inside it. The clapper was gone.

"Psssst!"

Pacifica turned to the hiss, seeing the Pines twins peaking from behind the wall, both smirking at her and holding out small things for her to see. In Dipper's hand was a screwdriver, and in Mabel's hand was the clapper.

Pacifica's eyes started to water and she felt her make-up running, but she didn't care so much about that right now. Before she knew what she was doing, the girl had made the dash for the twins and flung her arms around each of their necks. Her heart brimmed with a joy she hadn't felt in years as she felt Mabel squeeze her back and Dipper shyly giving her a one-armed hug.

"Thank you."

Because Daaaaww! Also, for those who don't know, a clapper is what they call those little dangling things in bells to make them ring. Now you know! Review.
