Annabeth

Percy?" The whisper was quiet but it carried in the dark. She strained her ears hoping to hear a groan or even movement.

No answer.

How did they get separated? She wondered, when they held each other so tightly? She tried to recall what happened but found it difficult. She took a deep breath and then shifted herself so that she was sitting up. She was surrounded by darkness.

Annabeth closed her eyes and with a small plea that no spiders would be discovered, she used her hands to search in a circle around her. It was uneven and cold. She needed to find Percy. She didn't like being alone in the dark. It was a vast emptiness to her, making her feel vulnerable.

Gritting her teeth and using the ground beneath her, Annabeth stood up, feeling faint. Her arms were sore and when she tried to stand on her foot, she inhaled sharply. She couldn't walk for long when she tried, so she settled for crawling slowly with her foot lifted several inches off the ground. It wasn't much better but it was progress.

She briefly wondered how long it would take before she went insane from the silence. Reciting random facts inside her head kept her from panicking and it made it the silence slightly more bearable.

It felt like hours to Annabeth when she finally heard a groan a few feet away from her.

"Anna...," there was a pause "Annabeth?" It sounded slurred and Annabeth hurried to him, following his voice. It was a relief to be near someone.

"Percy?" Concern in her voice.

"M'okay" he muttered, grunting as he sat up. Annabeth made her way to him and threw her arms around him, burying her head in his shoulder.

"You scared me." She mumbled and he rubbed her back, not saying anything.

"Together." He whispered and she withdrew from his shoulder and looked into the darkness.

"Together." She agreed
