Ok so…I was really bored in English the other day and I had Nothing Better by The Postal Service stuck in my head. So, since the song made me think of Renji and Rukia I decided to write this little blurb. In case you don't know the song, or haven't really noticed, what Renji and Rukia say to each other are the lyrics from the song. Anyways…I hope you enjoy it. :)
There Renji sat, just lounging about the sixth division, looking a bit depressed. He sighed. "Would someone please call the surgeon who can crack my ribs and repair this broken heart." He started to say quietly until he heard a sound and looked up. What he saw was Rukia, standing there looking at him. "That your deserting for better company."
He got up and walked closer to her. "I can't accept that it's over…I will block the door like a goalie tending the net, in the third quarter of a tied-game rivalry." Rukia gave him a strange look.
"So just say how to make it right. And I swear that I'll do my best to comply." She rolled her eyes and went to step around him. But, he moved with her and blocked her path. "Tell me am I right? To think that there could be nothing better then making you my bride and slowly growing old together?"
She sighed. "I feel I must interject here. You're getting carried away feeling sorry for yourself with these revisions and gaps in history." She placed her hand on his arm. "So let me help you remember. I've made charts and graphs that should finally make it clear. I've prepared a lecture on why I have to leave. So please back away and let go." Again, she tried to push him away and go around him, trying to leave the division building after talking to her brother.
"I can't my darling. I love you so." Renji's hand grabbed Rukia's hand, stopping her from leaving. He got down on a knee. "Tell me am I right…to think that there could be nothing better then making you my bride and slowly growing old together?"
"Don't you feed me lines about some idealistic future. Your heart won't heal right if you keep tearing out the sutures." She pulled her hand from his and turned to walk away.
"I admit that I have made mistakes and….I swear! I'll never wrong you again!" He got up again.
Rukia stopped for the last time. "Look, you've got a lure I can't deny. But you've had your chance. So say good bye." She started walking again. "Just say good bye." This time Renji didn't try to stop her. He watched as she walked out the door. As soon as she did, he followed her path and stared out to see her kiss Ichigo on the cheek before walking away, hand-in-hand, with him.
