She knew what Sasuke planned to happen when she ran at him, fist raised and ready to strike. His eyes; the eyes she had once adored so much; flashed momentarily to Captain Yamato. And then she knew.
She was just the lure; the bait.
She wasn't going to let that happen, when Yamato ran dutifully in front of her, apparently to protect her, she threw him off to the side, letting him careen into a wall unharmed.
Sakura smiled when the blade pierced her skin, lodging effectively between her shoulder blades, and she watched the brief shock flit across his beautiful face; fleeting. Then the blade began pumping the electricity into her open wound, and it didn't sting her heart.
"You haven't changed, Sakura," He glared down at her impassively. Another bittersweet smile fluttered over her face as he completed his sentence, "You're still annoying."
"The one who hasn't changed, Sasuke-kun, is you." She replied monotonously, still smiling up at the confused avenger, "You're still a fool."
A mixture of anger and surprise at her words fills his head, and the Sharingan naturally activates, an intimidating act. But she isn't done yet; hasn't told him exactly what she thinks about who he has become.
"You can't break bonds." She tells him with a scolding edge, "You of all people should know that. Because if you could, you would have gotten over your family a long time ago." She notes how he increases the pressure in the blade pinning her to the rock behind her when she brings up his family.
"You don't know what you're talking about." He replies, fixing a bored expression on his face, and knows he hasn't fooled her when she quirks a brow.
"You don't know what you're doing."
"Sakura." His warning tone is sourly familiar, and she reminisces quietly inside her head for a few moments, allowing Sasuke to believe that he has quieted her.
"You act as if you don't have emotions sometimes, Sasuke-kun." She tells him calmly, "But then again, when I think about it, a puppet dancing on strings doesn't have any need for them."
Once again, he is taken aback at her change of heart on him; taken aback that the girl who once told him she loved him, was trying to go out of her way to cause him emotional pain.
He knows she can't move now, there is too much electricity running through her veins now, numbing every area of her body, he leans down, so that her face is level with his.
"You're ruining your life." She tells him sullenly, "What do you think is going to happen when you kill Itachi? That you'll just be able to fall back into your normal, previous life? No, Sasuke-kun, you'll be killed. Put to death for betraying the village."
"Why are you doing this?" He hisses in her smiling face. The next thing that comes out of her mouth is also unexpected.
"Because I love you."
Before he can answer, and he was taking his time with that answer, the man called Sai, Captain Yamato, and Naruto had regrouped and attacked.
He leaves shortly afterwards, her voice still ringing in his head. And he still doesn't know why that he still feels a little bit guilty for refusing to listening the words she's saying.
