She finds him in his usual spot, watching clouds with the sort of laziness that Yoshino knew had to be an inherited trait among Nara men. It had to be, because she had never seen any other man among the shinobi ranks as lazy and sluggish as Nara Shikaku when he wasn't putting his mind to something.

He has to be a slug, but Yoshino still smiles as she walks towards him.

"Shikaku."

He doesn't answer at first.

"Shikaku."

Finally, dark eyes fall on her, slightly glazed, but with the smallest trace of a smile tugging at his mouth. "To what do I owe the pleasure, Yoshino?"

Yoshino stares at him, earnest. "Marry me."

He raises an eyebrow, unfazed, and pats the ground beside her. "Come again?" Shikaku asks, and Yoshino realizes that is isn't unfazed, just sure he hadn't heard her correctly. Good. Yoshino doesn't want the man she asks to marry her to be nonchalant about it.

Sweeping her skirt underneath her dramatically, Yoshino takes a seat among the woolly dandelions and stares directly into the eyes of a bemused Shikaku. "Marry me," she repeats, more insistent.

This time, Shikaku reacts. "What?" he half-shouts, voice growing louder than Yoshino had thought possible.

Her eyes narrow dangerously and he quails. "You heard me, Shikaku."

"Isn't it the man who's supposed to propose?"

Yoshino glares at him. "It's been long enough that I didn't think I could trust you to propose. Will you or won't you, Shikaku?"

He falls back into the dandelions, groaning. "Yeah, sure, whatever. Whatever you like, Yoshino." Sometimes it's smarter to just roll over.

And despite herself, Yoshino grins.
