Hey Guys, this is my next stage in my life, all based on my life, so its 100% real and personal for me , its all about my dad who is so sick at the moment , and this again is how im dealing with it all.
My whole world crashed even more 18 months after losing my fiancée Sam, daughter, and son. I'm now facing my next battle: my dad's health. Two days ago I was told he's battling for his life. He has cancer, Leukemia but he has a very rare form called Hairy Cell Leukemia. There are only approximately 3 cases a year is what doctors were telling us. The word cancer itself doesn't scare me, but Leukemia is an actual name and it makes it that much more real to me. It just means death to me because I have lost some of my family from it. It's more heartache, pain, loss, and stress, but in my dad's words, "Darling it's just another battle in front of me to fight."
I guess I should backup and start from the beginning. It all started about a week ago. Traci dropped off Leo because she got called in to work. Dad was playing around with Leo like all normal males do, but by midday he was throwing up. At first I just thought it was Gastro because at least once a year he will get it, so I didn't really think much of it.
He got sick on a Sunday and by Tuesday he was just getting worst. As an ex cop, I only knew the most basic medical stuff we were taught, and what I know about my dad, I knew this wasn't a good sign. Tuesday afternoon when Nick got home, he helped me take Tommy to the doctors in hope for some answers.
My dad was drained, he had no energy whatsoever. He couldn't even hold himself up, but with Dov and Nick's help, we got him out to the car and off to the doctors. The car ride was intense because no one said anything, but once we got to the doctor he was immediately taken back for blood tests. He admitted to the hospital by morning. Since I gave up policing when Sam and Stella were killed, I was now teaching at the Academy. Wednesdays were my days off so I didn't need to call. After 4 tubes of blood were taken, we were back home, and Dad was told to rest. With Nick's help, we had him back in the bed. I had gotten most of the house work done that I had forgotten about while I was looking after Dad. When I'm stressed or worried I clean. I can't help it. It wasn't until 1pm when I got a phone call that will forever awe me.
When I answered I said "McNally speaking."
The voice on the other end responded with, "Hi Ms. McNally, this is Pat from the clinic this morning. We tested your father's blood and I'm so sorry to tell you this, but you need to get your father to a hospital as soon as possible. We seem think he has some internal bleeding somewhere. I have already called an ambulance to take him there, it will get him there quicker. Once he arrives they will rush him back for some scans and more testing. Now I know it's a lot to take in, but don't worry we are doing everything we can for him."
I was in absolute shock. I couldn't help but reply with, "What? Really? Ok..wow! You're right it's a lot to take in. Almost too much. So can you tell me what do I need to do?"
"Nothing. Just wait until the EMT's get there. You can go with your father when they arrive if you please. You need to keep yourself calm and try to keep your father calm also, because this is very serious, but I'm sure you know that Andy." is what Pat told me.
So I told her thank you and asked when the EMT's would arrive.
Pat said, "Anytime now Andy. I'll let you go now so you can get some things together, but I'll call you later to check on everything."
I said "Thanks again, Pat!" Then the phone call was over.
