She doesn't realise it all the time but he's been there from the start. He's been through everything with them, just on the other side.
So she double-takes when he says all the right things, all the agreements. "What if I can't get into the Avatar state? Or I do and I lose control?" Aang whispered mournfully. Katara puts a hand on his shoulder, about to console him when Zuko cuts in. "I know you're afraid. You should be. But your powers are bigger than your fear. Think how many lives you've saved. You were dangerous at the North Pole but by using the Avatar State, you saved the people you had sworn to protect. Ozai is the same."
Katara looks at his stoney face and frowns. "How do you know abo-" she stops when she remembers. It brings it all back and she hates him for it.
She wishes she could get over it, and sometimes she almost does but he brings it back.
It's his fault she can't forget.
