"I'm counting on you Tails. And Amy, take care of yourself." Sonic put on his fighting stance, as if he were unafraid to face death head on.
"No." Amy muttered under her breath. He wasn't really expecting to die was he? This was Sonic, he must have some trick up his sleeve. But if he did, why was talking like this.
The capsule shot out.
"Sonic!" She called before turning around to watch it fly through space. She stared, waiting for Sonic to jump out of it and come flying through the window. But that wasn't happening. "No, no, no, no…" She didn't understand, he had to come out.
And then, without warning the capsule exploded in a brilliant fiery blast. "SONIC!" Amy screamed for him wishing, praying that it wasn't true. She collapsed to her knees and cried. There was nothing else to do. Sonic was gone. He can't be, she thought He can't! Sonic can't be dead, he's Sonic! But she'd seen it with her own eyes. The capsule had blown up and there was no sign that Sonic had escaped. The tears ran thick and fast as the realization hit her. Sonic was dead. She'd never see him again, never talk to him, hug him, chase him down the street while he jokingly made faces at her. That was it. He was gone. She sobbed brokenly. The sounds of laser fire and angry yells came from behind her, but she didn't care. It felt like her heart had been shattered and stomped on. What would she do without him? She didn't think she could continue knowing he was gone. She'd never commit suicide, but somehow it felt that if he was gone, her heart would just stop beating altogether of it's own accord.
She continued to cry for several minutes. Tails walked over to her, staring angrily at the defeated Eggman. "Sonic," he said. "I did it." He shook his head staring at the floor. Amy was slowly shaking her head as well, and repeating in her head No. No, no, no. No!
There was a beep on Tails' radio, he hit the button. "Good job Tails!" It was the very voice they'd thought they would never hear again.
For a moment, Amy thought she was hearing things. But then he spoke again.
"Look outside."
Tails gave Amy a huge grin and she smiled back before they ran to the window.
The Cannon was about to fire, but then the whole thing started to explode. When the Smoke cleared, Sonic could be seen hanging from an antenna and giving them the thumbs up.
At the sight of him, it felt like Amy's heart had leapt back together again, and she gave him one of the biggest smiles she'd ever had. Later she would give him the biggest hug possible, and she didn't think she would ever let go.
