"I'm sorry will never be enough." Her golden locks fell in her face and stuck to it, glued by tears; fresh, warm, salty tears.
He leaned against the all and looked down at the pitiful woman and asked, "The why'd you do it? You wouldn't need to apologize if you hadn't done it."
That was the truth. If she hadn't done such an ill task, then maybe there would be no reason to apologize. If she hadn't betrayed them, there would be no need to apologize because they'd all be alive: Anzu, Honda, Shizuka, Yugi, Kaiba, Mokuba, Jou...
Both of her fists clenched at the thought of him. Jounouchi Katsuya. He had shown her nothing but compassion, friendship, love, and in return she killed him. She killed everyone. Maybe not HER but her crowed had killed them. They'd never come back. Except the spirit of the Pharaoh, he had no choice now. When Mai defeated Yugi, the Pharoah had no choice but to take over the body.
And so there he was, huddled over the broken woman who refused to apologize because it was pointless. An apology couldn't resurrect the dead. Couldn't resurrect Jounouchi.
"You should've never turned away from the ones who held you down, Mai." spoke the Pharaoh switching his weight from his one foot to the other.
"I couldn't help it," Mai's voice was calm, and in no way shaky. Shocking compared to her appearance. Her voice grew louder, "You all never came back fro me. I looked and looked for you, but you were never there. You never cared!"
"We were your friends, Mai, how could you saw we 'never cared'?" His voice was calm and cool, like the bitter wind. It hurt, but it wasn't rough.
Sobbing dryly, she decided not to even respond. There was no use arguing because she knew she was wrong, but didn't feel like admitting it. It was pointless. She swore softly, and closed her eyes, afraid of opening and seeing the Pharoah's collected face. And he watched her face the ground, seeing tears splatter against the hardwood floor.
"You've been shining all of the wrong colors." whispered the Pharaoh as he bent down on one knee beside her. He lifted her chin with his forefinger, forcing her to look into his, now soft. eyes. "Repent for your sins of the past."
In no way could she close her eyes or look away from the beautiful Pharaoh. So instead she whispered the only words that felt right.
"I'm sorry."
