Disclaimer: I don't own Lost. I don't own Kate. I don't own Sawyer. I don't own Jack.
Author's notes: I was listening to Joseph Arthur's "In the Sun" and it reminded me of Sawyer/Kate which inspired me to write (my very first : ) Skate fic. The title is from "In the Sun", too.
I picture you in the sun wondering what went wrong
and falling down on your knees asking for sympathy
and being caught in between all you wish for and all you seen
and trying to find anything you can feel you can believe in
(In the Sun, Joseph Arthur)
She had intentionally pushed him away from her thoughts when they had left on the journey to save Jack. However, now as they were reaching their destination, their beach, and the scenery slowly started to look familiar, his face and his voice filled her head. She was growing anxious. She was trying to think of words to say to him. Her mind was racing, as was her heart and she just wanted to see him.
A sigh of relief escaped her mouth when they finally made it back. She had been unconsciously holding her breath in fear of ambush by the Others and worrying about never getting back to their beach after all. Then they stumbled out of the jungle, to the beach, feeling soft sand under their feet and she couldn't hold back a smile when she recognized familiar figures and familiar faces.
She was welcomed back with hugs and kisses on her cheek, with smiles and caring words, but eventually everyone surrounded Jack and she managed to slip out from the crowd.
He was standing there, twenty feet away from her. Just standing there and watching her tentatively, his brows slightly furrowed and his eyes soft, looking same as ever. Her heart skipped a beat and for a moment she thought her legs wouldn't carry her anymore.
"Sawyer," she said weakly, just then realizing how tired and worn down she was. With her last strenghts she walked up to him, tying her arms around his neck. He locked his hands behind her back, squeezing her tight against him, making her feet rise off the ground.
"I missed you," she mumbled against his hair.
"I missed you too, I'm glad you're okay, I was worried about you," he rambled, breathing her.
He held her close, clinging to her until she released her hold of him and and he slowly put her down on the ground. She brushed a lose strand of sun-striped hair behind his ear and he ran his thumb over her cheekbone. She got up on her toes and kissed his lip softly.
They stood there, facing each other only inches away.
"Hi," he whispered, his voice raw.
She smiled up to him. "Hi."
