Gilbert sighed softly as he opened the front door of the house he shared with his boyfriend and moved inside. His day at work hadn't been great and all he had wanted to do by the end was go to the pub and drown his sorrows. Unfortunately he'd promised Matthew that he'd come straight home so he had. Matthew himself was nowhere to be seen, though from the faint smell of oil from the kitchen and the fact the door to the room – which usually stood open – was shut, he presumed he was making dinner.

He went over and opened the door a crack. Sure enough Matthew was cooking, flipping pancakes and humming along to the radio that was playing in the background.

Gilbert couldn't help smiling slightly. Matthew's shoulder-length blond hair was tousled and messy and, the German man liked to watch the precision in which his Canadian boyfriend cooked.

Matthew turned as he heard Gilbert move into the room properly and close the door, "Hi," he smiled at him, "Give me two seconds and these will be done." He turned back to what he was doing and tipped the last pancake onto a plate that was already piled high with them. He picked up the two plates of food and put them on the table along with a huge bottle of maple syrup.

Smiling wider Matthew leaned over and softly kissed Gilbert as they sat down, "I hope you're okay night. I was worried when you called earlier."

Gilbert shook his head, "Just had a killer day at work. Which was definitely not awesome." He smiled slightly wider than he had before as he poured the maple syrup and started to eat.

The pair chatted idly as they ate, the warm familiarity of it improving Gilbert's mood immensely. Enough so that when a song he liked the sound of came on the radio as they were washing up he leaned over, turning it up as loud as he could.

Matthew frowned slightly and glanced at him, yelping as Gilbert wrapped his arms around his waist and started dancing him around the kitchen.

As the song ended they broke away from each other, red-faced and laughing.

Gilbert leaned over and kissed him softly, pushing a long strand of hair away from Matthew's face, "Thank you, Mattie," he murmured happily.

"What for?" Matthew smiled, though his violet gaze was slightly confused.

"Always making me smile."
