Move
"Well, this is the last of it. Are you sure you still want to go through with this?" Shizuo huffed, hauling the last box into their rented truck.
"Are you stupid? Like we even have a choice anymore," Izaya scoffed, using the back of his hand to wipe at the sheen of sweat that coated his forehead from their long morning of work.
"Yeah, I guess you're right. It's not like we had much stuff to begin with, though, so if you are having second thoughts—"
"Shizu-chan, stop it," Izaya cut in.
The intensity of his voice had made Shizuo turn around and cock his head to the side in confusion. "What's with that, huh? I'm just—"
"Well, don't," Izaya intervened once more, this time turning away from him.
Shizuo stared with utter perplexity at the back that was now facing him. What was Izaya's problem? Though somewhat serious, Shizuo had been mostly joking about the idea of unloading and unpacking everything that they had spent the last three weeks on.
It was then that Shizuo saw a distinct shudder course through the expanse of Izaya's shoulder blades that caused him to worry. Inching closer to the male with pristine caution, Shizuo placed a delicate-as-can-be hand on the small of Izaya's back, a stimulus that received no reaction from the informant. "What's this really about, Izaya? You're acting strange all of a sudden," Shizuo had asked with as much concern as his voice could muster without making him sound funny.
"It's nothing," Izaya retorted, a signal of exasperation in his tone.
"It's not nothing if you're going to be giving me attitude like that. Come on, just tell me."
There was silence. It lingered for close to a minute or so, before it was broken by a soft voice that all but whispered, "Do you not want to live together?"
"Huh? What kind of question is that?" Shizuo chuckled amusedly.
"It's a perfectly good question that I want answered!" Izaya shouted, spinning on his heel and breaking the gentle contact that Shizuo had had with the man's lower spine.
Shizuo studied the informant's face, taking but a minute to realize that he was being one-hundred percent serious. Sighing almost exhaustedly and scratching at the back of his head, Shizuo responded, "Of course I want to live with you, idiot. Why would I have done all of this if I didn't?"
"Because you're an idiot."
"Izaya," in one, swift motion, Shizuo had grasped onto Izaya's wrists and pushed him up against the side of the truck, forcing him into submission. "I want to be living under the same roof as you, until the day I die. My questions were for you, asking you if you had wanted the same thing."
Struck silly and dumb-lipped, Izaya couldn't find the words that needed to be said and instead remained in his stupor of stupidity.
"I'll ask you one more time, okay? Don't go all crazy on me again," Shizuo smiled, finding that, just when he thought he was getting used to the frantic actions of his lover, the man would come up with three different ways to send him into oblivion once again. "Izaya, are you sure you want to live with me?"
Like the flip of a switch and the twist of a lock, the informant's expression became lax. His lips had pulled into a small smile, and with the gentlest of words, he nodded and assured Shizuo's question at hand.
"Yes, I want to live with you."
