Green eyes bored into his tired brown. The young girl stood her ground, swallowing thick as she had just poured out that she was not alone when she had received her bite. She blinked back tears, feeling them threatening to overflow, but she wouldn't cry. Not now, not ever again.
"Swear to me." She begged, voice cracking as Joel was caught off guard by her demand. He wanted so desperately to hold her and whisper all the truth to her, he had basically help build this girl up only to tear her down.
"Ell…" He began, voice soft, hands slowly reaching out to her, halting when she didn't make any moves to be gather up into his arms. Oh baby girl, how far will I watch you fall? She shook her head refusing the comfort, she had to be strong right now.
"Swear to me that everything you said about the Fireflies is true." Ellie choked out, watching him struggle. Lie to me Joel, tell me that it's all true. Let's keep living with this façade of humanity and hope. He swallowed, clearly fighting within himself before he licked his lips, the words pouring from his mouth.
"I swear."
"Okay."
Liars. They were both liars.
