Summary: Inspired by the preview for the Season Priemere...what would happen if they find her alive? WARNING! This story mentions femslash...
I was running. My breath was coming in short gasps, and my chest felt as though it was going to explode, but I didn't care. I had to get to that car. I had to get to her. The love of my life was in that car. I could see the flash of red in the distance, and as I crested the hill, I saw the whole scene. The sports car was on its roof in a creek. There were no signs of life within the car, and that scared me. I took off running again, sliding down the hill and wading into the water. I inhaled, went under, opened my eyes, and looked in the driver's side window. I could just make out a dark shape in the murky water, and I exploded out of the water, only to hear panicked voices.
"Is she in there? Can you see her?"
Turning around to face the source of the questions, I nodded emphatically. I was surrounded by my co-workers in a heartbeat, and together, we strained to lift the car right-side-up. By the grace of God, we managed to flip the car over, though I suppose that you can do anything with adrenaline running through your veins.
I grabbed a nearby rock and slammed it against the window. The window shattered, and I began pulling the broken glass away. The water came rushing out, and that's when my heart stopped. Sara was limp against the seatbelt, her skin mottled and bluish, eyes closed. I threw the door open, then checked her neck for a pulse. It was faint and irregular, but there was definitely a pulse. I wrenched the door open, not caring about the glass that cut my hands and arms.
"Someone call for an ambulance!" I cried, and heard Warrick talk into his radio, telling the operator that there was an officer down and that we needed assistance. I returned my focus to Sara and undid the seatbelt, supporting her with my arm as she slumped forward. Carefully leaning her back up against the seat, I checked her pulse again, to reassure myself that she was indeed alive. The pulse was still there, though it was just as weak as it was before.
"Sara? Sara, it's me. Can you hear me?" I whispered, stroking her cheek gently. There was no movement, and tears of frustration welled up in my eyes. I didn't want to lose her. Not so soon. We'd finally worked through our issues and we'd started a real relationship. We'd actually gone out to dinner and what not, and had spent the night with each other three or four times. And now, I was about to lose my one true love.
I could hear the sirens in the distance, and over the pounding of my heart I heard a helicopter drawing near. I looked at Sara again, hoping to see some change in her countenance, but there was no difference. She was still pale and unconsious. Shaking my head, I was about to check her pulse for the third time, but a hand on my shoulder stopped me. Looking up, I saw two men and a woman, all in black outfits; the medics had arrived. I moved away slightly, but I wouldn't let go of Sara's hand. I watched silently as they put a c-spine collar around her neck, then gently removed her from the car. I held Sara's hand as they laid her on a stretcher, and I walked with them as they wheeled her toward the ambulance. When we reached the ambulance and the woman medic asked who was going in the back with Sara, my co-workers looked at me. I nodded, and climbed in. The medic slammed the door and we were off.
"What's her name?" the medic asked me, and when I spoke, my voice was soft and subdued.
"Sidle. Sara Sidle."
"And what's your name?"
"Willows. Catherine Willows."
