This is Day 19 of the 100 Day Drabble Challenge. Proceed to hate me.
Percy held fast to Nico's hand with pearls of sadness forming in his eyes. He had a death grip on the pale appendage. It turned the pallid skin a flushed pink. Nico in general looked gaunt, his only spots of color being where Percy's hands grabbed him tight. And, of course, the blackness of the bags under his sunken eyes. He already looked like the death that would come so soon to claim him.
The dying Italian gave a small laugh. "Percy," he managed through his destroyed vocal cords. "Percy, look at me." Sea green eyes rose to meet darkened ones. "You must let me go. It's my time."
"No!" sobbed Percy, gripping his lover even tighter. "No, I can't let you go! You can't leave me, Nico. Please, please don't leave me." Tears rained freely down his cheeks and his head dropped down to bury in the bedsheets. "It's not fair!" he wailed hopelessly. "You're mine, Hades can't have you." Then, brokenly, "You're mine."
Nico set a trembling hand on Percy's inky hair. "I love you," he murmured. The light was already flickering out in his eyes. Percy wept louder, unashamed of his sorrow.
"Nico!" he screamed. Percy lifted his head just in time to see the light finally die in his love's eyes, his last words that Percy would never know frozen upon his lips.
The world shattered and exploded. It was at that moment Percy felt true heartbreak. Like the light in Nico's eyes, his heart flicked in and out of existence. And he knew through his tears that it would remain that way forever, that his obliterated heart would never love another in such a way again.
