I walked down the normal path to my quiet house in the woods. The crickets chirped louder than ever. In human morph, I shivered from the autumn chill in the air. Perhaps the chill came from some fear deep within me as well. Something felt different that night.
My name is Ameeanna-Tsenrell-Lvotsiiner. I am a female andalite and a well-known scientist back at home. I have been on earth for about seven years now, researching this incredible species known as the humans. I am so fascinated with this species. Their emotions are incredible.
As I continued to walk, the icy wing blew throughout the trees and around me. The winds blew faster around me, picking up the pace. I normally do not get afraid easily, but this truly frightened me.
Fluorescent lights began to flash around me. I gasped in shock as the winds and lights formed a circle in front of me, dancing an eerie dance. Out of this strange tornado, a figure took formation. I'm couldn't exactly tell what creature or being it was, but it looked human. Or at least I hoped it was.
Finally, the tornado faded and a young man stood in its place. He looked at me with dark eyes that I could not see beyond. He smiled. Then what he did next made my morph feel faint.
"Ameeanna-Tsenrell-Lovotsiiner." He knew my name? How was that possible? I was very careful not to let anyone find me.
I narrowed my eyes at him. Finally, I was able to form words. "How do you…"
"I know more than you think, child. And I must talk to you, Amee."
Then I realized who this was. "Wait a minute, you're an ellimnist, aren't you?"
"That is correct." He grinned, then his face grew serious. "There is something I need for you to do. Please do not ask questions. Just listen to me."
Although I was extremely afraid to be in his presence, I hid my fear. In response, I nodded.
"I have a task for you. There are some people I would like for you to find and join forces with. They call themselves the 'Animorphs.' They are a group of young humans with the ability to morph."
I gasped. "But how did they get the power?"
"Elfangor gave it to them. There is no time to explain now though. They will tell you more. Also, one is in a hawk's body, but inside he is also a human. And one of them is an andalite."
"An andalite?" This caught my attention. "Is it someone I know?"
"You might remember him. His name is Aximili-Esgarrough-Isthill."
My human heart almost skipped a beat. I could not believe this! I swore to myself never to even think about him ever again. His name brought back harsh memories from the past, ones that I had tried to forget. But now, hearing his name brought them back.
I looked at the ellimnist in disbelief. "But why must I join forces with them? They probably wouldn't even trust me."
He shook his head. "Ameeanna, you must trust me on this. They need your help. And they can help you as well. You will need as much power as possible in order to win this fight against the yeerks. And they will gain your trust. You must give it a chance."
I sighed. It was useless to disagree with an ellimnist. "Okay, I shall seek out these 'Animorphs.'"
He nodded. His image faded, but his voice remained. "Good. Find them as soon as you can. Goodbye, Ameeanna."
And with those few simple words began my adventure…and my nightmare.
