It could not believe the audacity of this mortal. To stand up to the mighty Nine-Tails, and actually think that it would make a difference. Still, there would be no punishment. As much as it wanted to deny it, the once so feared fox demon was at the moment virtually powerless.

Rage was a familiar emotion to the nine-tailed demon, as well as blood lust, anger and fury. Boredom, however, was a completely new sensation. It had always before been able to act on its impulses, to care nothing of the consequenses as one of the most powerful beings in existence, but now it was forced to pace the confines of its prison and only watch the bars that separated it from the rest of the world. Even the pathetic appearance of its jailor had been a relief after the years of solitude.

Soon a new emotion made itself known: bewilderment. It knew enough to realise that the child was not treated well by the other villagers, and for its life the fox could not understand just why the little human persisted in its resistance. Should it not be happy for a chance to gain revenge, to get back at its tormentors?
