Of Photographs and Friends

The second day that Luna was gone, Xenophilius looked towards the skies. He set the printing press on automatic print, grabbed a cup of tea and smiled as a small brown dot sluiced its way through the air in his direction.

"My dear daughter, what did you forget this time?" He placed the cup on a side table before sighing and opening the small window to the kitchen. The small owl hooted and blinked its right eye before turning its head to look at Xenophilius Lovegood with an equally cross-eyed gaze. As the owl stuck his leg out and clucked at the white haired man, Luna's father patted the owl on the head and said, "Thank you Lord Byron." As soon as the letter was unfurled the owl flew out of the window and into the old shed, which was converted into a small owlry for The Quibbler.

Dearest Father,

I know I packed everything I thought I was going to need for the school year, but I forgot one thing. It will be most appreciated if you could send it post haste. It is a photograph in a black frame. If my memory serves me well, I left it in the top drawer to my desk.

Yours always,

Luna

Xenophilius scratched his nose once and took another sip of his tea. "A photograph, my dear?" The ex-Slytherin pursed his lips before placing the letter in his pocket. Moving up the stairs to his daughter's room, he looked at the giant faces covering the walls. "Luna.." He took a deep breath before moving to the desk. There, he slid the middle drawer open. He expected to see the usual mahogany boxed calligraphy set, but he was surprised to see a still photo sitting there.

Xeno picked up the photograph and looked at it closely searching for movement. There wasn't any. The blonde sat still, his eyebrow raised and had a smirk on his face. Everyone behind him (he was possibly at a Quidditch match outside of England, all the colours and insignias were nothing Xenophilius had seen before) was cheering wildly, hands thrown in the air, smiles on faces. Luna's father scanned the photo once more and noticed in the bottom right corner there was a small-embossed "C/C" in red and gold plait.

My Moonchild

Here is what you asked for.

I am not asking for explanations, but just for my heart, I want to know if he knows.

Always there for you,

Your father

Xeno

Luna smiled as she unwrapped the photo of Draco Malfoy at dinner that night.

"He looks amazing" Ginny commented as she looked over the Ravenclaw's shoulder.

"Colin caught him a few years ago at a game in France."

"He still looks the same"

Luna turned her eyes to her red headed friend. "You think so? I disagree, Ginny." Her eyes fell on the photo again before she pocketed it with a small smile on her face.
