What if?
The only things that ran through his head. Once he thought the pain was over, another what if flooded his head and he panicked and screamed and cried. Not that it mattered. After what he had done, he knew he'd never see Feferi.
What if she hates me?
He would understand. He killed her. He was a clingy overdramatic asshole and she didn't deserve to deal with him. She was much happier with Sollux, he could tell. She smiled and laughed with him and she made happiness look so easy.
What if she's looking for me?
That's the most unlikely thing he could think. If she is, it's only to tell him how much she hates him. She'll find him and slap him and yell and scream. He'd just sit there, he couldn't hurt her; he had enough already. He'd sit and take all of it and know that he deserved it.
What of she doesn't hate me?
Then she's insane. She had every right to hate him and never want to see him again. Hell, he hated himself; of course she would hate him too. Everyone in this goddamn bubble should hate him. Everyone in paradox space already does, he bet.
What if she misses me?
Eridan sighed, picking up a history book he remembered and began reading. He was willing to think of anything but that. After all, scientists rarely consider impossibilities.
