Well, this is my entry for 39cluesFan's contest. Love you :) Hope you like it!
Amy was sitting in her desk, carefully attending the lesson. Outside, the sky was full of grey clouds, threatening to release thick raindrops, just as her mood. It was 20 minutes before the end of the lesson when Mrs. Simpson finished her lesson. Unusual Amy thought. Mrs. Simpson always finished her lesson on time, so Amy quickly became curious and confused. Interrupting her thoughts, the teacher spoke up.
"This year, for the first time, our school will be taking part in the annual Creative Writing Contest organized by The Youth Magazine Of Attleboro" she announced trying to cover the students' voices. Just then the class became silent for a while. Though, it only took some seconds before everyone started talking again. Some sounded bored, groaning in disappointment, going back in their previous activities (whispering and annoying each other). However, a few students seemed excited, a fact that satisfied Mrs. Simpson.
"Now children" she begun, receiving weird looks from 15-year-old teens who, as they used to say, weren't kids any more. "I'd like to make a discussion with you, about the rules, the topic and the due date of the contest" she continued, ignoring them inefficiently. "First of all, you have 2 whole months to work on your entries. Winners will be announced 2 weeks later" she informed the class. "So tell me, what does the world bullet reminds you of?" she asked smoothly, after clearing her throat, only to see bright smiles in students' faces.
A bunch of hands were risen including Amy's. Before her turn, several people had spoken.
A blonde girl with glasses replied that she was reminded of war, of many people laying dead in the ground. Predictable but safe answer…
A boy wearing a T-shirt signed by many artists thought about "Bullet for my Valentine" a heavy metal band, leaving the teacher speechless. Quiet laughs were heard at the sound of the answer.
Just before Amy, a shy girl whose voice was hardly ever heard, pointed out that bullet could also have to do with heartbreak. Clever answer!
At last, Amy had the weirdest opinion of all. Well, at least that was what her class thought… She, herself knew she couldn't be more correct. Because bullets was a common thing in her family…
When Amy returned home, she immediately got locked in her room, letting the tears she had been holding long enough, cross her face. She couldn't carry all this burden alone. The clue hunt, and the secrets going along with her huge inheritance. It was so unfair for her! Everybody looked at her as if she was an alien when she said she the word bullet was similar to the word family for her. But it was so true…. And she couldn't write her story for the contest because, most probably, she would get killed by the Cahills for revealing the truth about Gideon. She'd also have to reveal what she was doing during the summer. I must think about something else, or I'll be dead she realized. She wanted to have a normal life after all…
Cahill blood runs in my veins
A huge inheritance for me
I'm always in fear
Of getting killed
By my own relatives.
Running around the world
Hiding in the corner
Being chased by mosters.
Searching everywhere,
Risking my life,
Destroying my future,
Asking for justice.
My name is Amy,
Please let me tell you my story.
R&R! You better like this BFF because it's one of the reasons I yawn at class! Kidding, don't go easy on me! :D
* I see this confused a person. Amy didn't say she was reminded of HER family. She said she was reminded of A family. And I never said the poem is included in Amy's story... SO I guess you didn't like that...Sorry.
