Special Agent Seeley Booth was tired. More than just tired, he was exhausted. After a two week long, non-stop case, him and his partner, Doctor Temperance Brennan had finally caught the bastard that had killed five people over a three week period. Booth yawned, stretching his arms high above his head until he felt his back crack. He rubbed a hand over his face, massaged at his eyes and then yawned again. Booth shifted in his desk chair, trying to relieve some of the pressure that had settled in his lower spine just above his buttocks. He let his head drop back against the leather and closed his weary lids. Booth had noticed early, much to his displeasure that dark circles had appeared around his blood shot eyes. A sleepy sigh escaped his lips and for the first time that day, Booth allowed himself to relax. His mind went blank and his heart rate began to slow. His breathing came in a slow, steady rhythm and Booth felt himself begin to drift into sleep. A light rap on his door pulled at his eyes, and he found them lazily opened. A smile touched his lips when he saw his partner standing in his doorway. "Hey," he said, his voice thick with exhaustion.
"Hey yourself," Brennan answered with a small smile. She entered the office and took a seat across the desk from him. "You finish up the paperwork?"
Booth nodded and pointed to a folder at the corner of his desk. "I was just resting to get enough energy to come and see you," he said, sitting forward slightly. "Need that million dollar autograph of yours." He pushed the folder across the desk toward her.
"I doubt it's worth that much," Brennan pointed out, taking a pen from a cup and opened the folder to the correct page. She endorsed the first page and then three more pages, before closing the folder and replacing the pen. "You look terrible," she said, lifting her eyes to meet his.
"Thanks, Bones. What a way to make a man feel better." Brennan gave a small laugh, shook her head and rolled her eyes.
"Why don't you go home and get some sleep?"
"I'm thinking about that," he answered, standing from his chair. "But first I think I want some dinner. You free?"
"As a matter of fact, I am."
"What are you doing here anyway?" Booth asked as they left his office.
"I came to see if you wanted dinner," she admitted.
"You? Came to ask me out?"
"What's so strange about that idea?" she questioned as Booth reached out and pushed the button for the elevator.
"It's just that normally I have to come drag you out of the labs for dinner."
Brennan shrugged. "Thought I would try something new."
"Well, it's an unexpected surprise."
"Angela said I needed to be a little more…spontaneous."
"Remind me to think Angela," Booth said as the doors opened before them.
Brennan stepped into the box before saying, "And just wait until we get home. A few unexpected things wait there too." Booth stepped beside her and smiled.
"Can't wait, Bones. Can't wait," Booth said as he reached down and grabbed her butt.
Well, was it Unexpected? If you can't figure it out, Booth and Brennan are in a relationship.
