Hello, tell me you know, yeah, you've figured me out
Something gave it away
And it would be such a beautiful moment to see the look on your face
To know that I know that you know now
(If It Kills Me, Jason Mraz)
The waves roll lazily over the sand, lapping over Kurt's feet.
He stares aimlessly at the point where the ocean meets the sky. A single bold shade of blue that abruptly turns into wild, shifting shades of colors.
He hears sand sinking softly behind him but doesn't turn around to see who it is.
Someone sits down next to him.
He turns, hand coming up to shade his eyes from the bright rays of the sun, sees a glare from blonde hair, then turns back and stares into the sea.
"Hey."
"Hi Sam."
They sit still for a while, not saying anything, Kurt staring at the water, Sam staring at his bare toes, digging his heels into the sand.
Sam starts pulling at a loose thread on his faded t-shirt.
"Why are you here?"
Sam stops pulling and looks at Kurt, "You looked lonely."
"I'm used to it."
Sam shifts in the sand and his hand moves, resting close to Kurt's. He turns and stares at Kurt.
Kurt tears his gaze away from the softly rolling waters of the ocean and looks up slowly right into Sam's eyes.
"You know," Sam says quietly, "I looked from the sea to your eyes and I couldn't tell the difference. They're the same color."
Sam looks away, embarrased at his accidental slip of the tongue.
Kurt smiles, cheeks tinted slightly pink, and smoothes out his khaki shorts.
"But your eyes have gold flecks in them," Sam says, head lowered.
His cheeks are flushed red and when he looks up Kurt is giving him a familiar grin. He remembers (the grin, the conversation, the hollow feeling he had afterwards, staring blankly at the shower wall).
Kurt knows.
Sam feels a twisting in his stomach, his vision becomes blurry.
(I'm gay. I'm gay.)
Next to him, Kurt says quietly, "It's okay, you know."
The twisting unknots and suddenly everything is put into focus, everything is clear. He feels free.
Liberated.
He stands up, holds out his hand and Kurt hesitantly slips his hand into his and gets up.
"Come on, you can't come to the beach and not have fun."
Kurt rolls his eyes but follows Sam into the water anyways.
Sam stops suddenly, when the water is sloshing around his knees, and turns around so quickly that Kurt almost crashes into him.
He looks at Kurt and tries to memorize his face in this moment, the determined set of his jaw, the graceful curve of his cheek bones and the color of his eyes.
It's fucking beautiful.
Sam leans in closer and rests his forehead on Kurt's. Kurt smirks, even with his eyes closed.
"You never fooled me Linda Evangelista."
Sam doesn't know who Linda Evangelista is and he doesn't care as he kisses Kurt, head tilted down, hand tracing Kurt's jaw line.
Kurt and Sam meet in the shallow water of the ocean in the same way that the sea meets the sky.
