Ed brushed the snow off of the gravestone, and took a seat beside it, ignoring the wetness seeping through his coat. His knees were brought up to his chest, head laying on one while the other was occupied by his automail hand.
"I know I promised I'd play with you, Nina," He began, raising his head up. "and I'm sorry that I never did. I'm sorry that I didn't figure it out sooner, and I'm sorry that you ended up like that."
He continued on with silence for the next few minutes.
"Big brother couldn't be here," He said, using the name she'd used for Alphonse. "He's babysitting Elysia, and helping Miss Hughes around the house."
More silence.
"Can you ever forgive me for not being there? Please, Nina?" He asked, knowing that it wouldn't have made any difference had he not said it.
"Of course I can, Little Big Brother." Ed thought the voice was just his imagination, and brushed it off as wanting a response from Nina.
It wasn't until he looked up in front of him that he realized that she was there.
She looked a bit taller, but still like her four-year-old self. She was wearing a white night gown, similar to the one she slept in, and had small feathered wings on her back.
"So can Mommy, too." Nina smiled upward, where Ed was able to see a short woman with blonde hair in the same attire as Nina.
Ed was still in shock, and wasn't even sure he'd seen them when they faded into the new fallen snow. He lay down beside the gravestone, kissing it where Nina's birthday was engraved, and got up to get back the the Hughes' house before Gracia began worrying about him.
