First attempt at both a harry potter fic and at freeverse. Because i've somewhat fallen in love with NextGen :D It's all disclaimed; r&r, if you want.

"Lily,"

the boy says.
"Lily."

her piercing sea-green eyes are his
pastpresentfuture.

.

.

.

someone once told you that

being in love, it's

the most

b e a u t i f u l

feeling in the world

(it's not exactly a lie.)

they just forgot to mention

the potential it holds

of being the most

P A I N F U L.

[x]

"i wish i could fall in love with someone who, for once, will love me back."

you did; and not that cheap love, either,
the kind people throw around
all the time.

(at least, that's what you tell yourself

when it all comes crashing down.)

[x]

he doesn't know if he can deal with it—

he's scared, because he knows that love could
make people do so many different things, and that there were

so many ways to say

g
o
o
d
b
y
e.

{and when it happens, you're s p i r a l i n g.}

and suddenly its

[finite incantatem]

in other words, hasta la vista, lily dear.

...

they ask you about it, they do. you were g o l d e n, they say,

so why did you end?

but there are so many details, and...

you don't know anymore.

you're crying.

;

(and it's really too bad that,
no one's willing to perform the 'obliviate' spell on you.)

...

in autumn sometime,

you slip into a coffee shop in the muggle part of town
and Dominique grins cattishly from a corner booth,
handing you some much-needed
f i r e w h i s k y

in a slightly cracked robin-blue mug.

she makes it better, just a little, y'know?
you chat about stupid, girly things

("so, did you hear that Albus is with so-and-so now? bloody hell, right?")
"did you read Rita Skeeter's latest piece of bull? side-splitting, isn't it? (shakes head) she's ridiculous. god knows why the daily prophet even keeps her on."

and the best part is,
she doesn't even mention his name.

...

/a short confession:/

truthfully, she's never been your favorite relative
(people mistake her ~l o y a l t y~ for bitchiness, and she's kind of, well, vain)
but you start to genuinely like her, because,

isn't dealing with her easier than dealing with the

pitifulglances and ( worried looks )

you get from the rest of your [extended family]
after all?

...

upon boarding the Hogwarts Express for the last time,

one of rolf scamander's friends makes the mistake of telling poor lily luna potter:

"did you know that,
most relationships that fail are dysfunctional?"

then recoils in surprise when

dominique slaps him.

[x]

(and in that moment, albeit s l o w l y, your heart starts to heal,)

(like repairo)

you breathe in.

...

a bright-eyed scorpius malfoy watches from the corner, smirking.

their irises meet, and the malicious smile
s o f t e n s at her glare.

believe it or not, he even stares a little.

...

(it's almost like foreshadowing, isn't it?)
