(Jade POV)
Laying on my bed looking at the ceiling, I wait for my brother to get home from work. For a while everything is quiet, only the sound of my breathing filling the room. Not having a Mom or Dad around makes everything a lot quieter. Getting sick of the silence I get up and put my iPod into the iHome and turn on Lets Cheers To This by Sleeping With Sirens, and lay back down. I close my eyes and let the music take me, feeling happier than I usually am. Five more songs passed when I heard a car door, then loud walking. I sigh and get up, shutting my iPod off and stuffing it in the pocket of my baggy jeans. I walk down the short staircase of the average sized house into the kitchen where I see Torren.
"Hey bro, how was work?" I ask grabbing some things on the counter and putting them away for him. When I turn around, he's leaning against the sink rubbing his temples. He's only five years older than me and he's still a better guardian then Mom and Dad ever were. His black hair is short in the back but longer in the front, gelled into a point. His sharp blue eyes were closed, most likely full of exhaustion. He sighs and throws his coat onto the couch and looks at me.
"Like usual, full of dumbass people whining about stupid shit," him saying this made me chuckle. "But it got worse when your principle called me, informing me that you are suspended for three weeks. Jade we talked about this." This time he said this more sternly, making me look down.
"I know we talked about it, but it wasn't my fault." I counter, pointing at myself. He laughs humorlessly and stands up and starts to the living room, I follow him.
"Okay jade, whose fault was it then?" He replies while sitting on the edge of the couch, his arms crossed in front of his chest. I run a hand through my short brown hair and scratch the back of my neck.
"It's this stupid blonde chicks fault." I say while stuffing my hands in my pockets. He sighs again.
"How," he asked while looking down. "How is it this blonde chicks fault?" he shakes his head and looks up to me. I groan in annoyance.
"She called me a faggot and pushed me into the lockers. So I threatened to throw her out of the school with my scissors in her face," I reply while I plop down on the other couch. He slide off the edges of the couch he's on and lays on his back.
"Jade, no matter how much she 'deserved' to be threatened, doesn't mean you can do it. She probably thought you were serious, but you weren't, and told." He's being less stern now so that's good. I nod and he just looks at me. I look at him and raise an eyebrow. "Why does this bother you now? It never did before." He asked patting the spot next to him, where I go and sit and lean against his knees. I just shrug and look at my lap. "Jade please tell me." He asks in a voice so gent it startles me, I look up at him, he's now fully sitting up and his eyes show concern. I sigh and look back down.
"It's just… I've been thinking about a lot of things lately… and I-I-I think I'm supposed to be a boy." I say looking up at him in the end, only to look back down. His hand lands on my shoulder and pulls me toward him into a hug. I hug him back and I just feel safe.
"I promise Jade, whenever I get enough money, I will help you with that." He said as he pulled back making me smile at him, earning a smile back.
"Thank you Torren." I tell him sounding so happy, which I couldn't be more than that.
