Come Back, Come Home

A poem written for a school competition - Dis' perspective on losing her son(s) in battle. Give it a go if poetry's your thing, it's not too long and I could do with some advice, as poetry really isn't mine ;)

My school made me do a poetry competition, and if there's one thing I struggle writing then it's poetry. Unfortunately, my desire to study creative writing at uni inspired my teacher to point at me in front of the whole class and declare I would be the one to beat. Urgh. So anyway, seeing as how I'm too busy to get out an actual chapter of an actual story for a couple of days I thought that I could maybe write a poem from Dis' perspective after losing Fili, Kili and Thorin as the theme is person/place. I thought I'd put this up here and let you all be the judge of how awful a poet I am.

It's from Dis' perspective and addressed to Fili (because I needed one subject for the poem not three :P) and it's supposed to be sad but it's a bit of a child's poem TBH.

Sigh. Anyway, here you go...

Come back, come home, I need you here with me

I am in no danger; stone walls keep me free

But I need you to come back, come home;

I can't sit here remembering you all alone.

I need to see the brilliant ocean in your gaze,

I need to touch the molten gold of your hair

I need to hear your laugh light the world

And I need to feel you here, back here, back home.

Somewhere out there you fight a glorious fight

Somewhere out there you risk your life for us all

Somewhere out there you dream, little dreamer

But do you dream of here, back here, back home?

I imagine you fighting, little sunshine, and I gasp

I imagine you falling into the darkness and cry

I imagine you leaving me alone and my heart breaks,

And I beg the darkness to let you come back, come home.

I hear your voice whispering in my dreams,

I hear your laughter haunting every step,

I hear your weeping whenever I sigh

And I let out a scream 'Oh, come back, come home!'

But you can't come back, you can't come home

Death entered the battle and stole you alone

There were no walls around you and you fell like a stone

But I need you to come back, come back and come home.

See, I told you I was awful ;) Even so, I thought I'd upload it on the off chance someone enjoyed it so meh. Review if you fancy, I'd much appreciate it.

Final note : OMG! DOS on saturday, luxury seats! I'm sooooo excited!
