She had seen him before. Mikasa had finally placed those dark eyes and raven hair. Realizing who he was, was like a slap to the face. An instant flashback to that house in the woods those six years ago and the man who'd saved her. He had appeared from nowhere, sweeping in on her kidnappers and easily defeating them in a fight.
"You are alone now. Fight."
Those words. Cold words from a velvety baritone that stuck to Mikasa on the darkest day of her life. Even after Eren had appeared bringing new light into her dark world, the man had still been a part of her newfound strength and stoic nature. The finesse he used when taking down her captors was a driving force in her own fighting style now. A man who'd been the only influence of the person she was now.
Yet here he was again, sweeping in on her life. His presence gripping her as a ghost from her past. It couldn't be him, anyone but Corporal Levi. The brutish man that had beaten Eren couldn't possibly be the man she had subconsciously patterned after.
"What's wrong Mikasa?" Armin asked. "You look like you've seen a ghost."
Levi brushed past her, his bored expression so different from the burning eyes and vengeful face from that day in the woods.
"Mikasa! Armin!"
She slowly snapped out of her reprieve at the sound of Eren's voice.
She instantly turned to him. "Eren, are you okay? Did that irksome prick try to do anything to you? If he did I swear-"
"What? No, I'm fine. Corporal Levi didn't do anything to me."
"Mikasa, are you sure you're okay?" Armin placed a hand on her shoulder. "You're shaking."
This couldn't be happening. How had she not realized who he was before now?
"I'm fine Armin. And I'm glad you're okay Eren."
She turned from them, her dark eye glazed in thought. She wanted to confront him about it. If he knew who she was how would he react? Moreover, if he knew who she was, would he realize his mistake of beating Eren?
"I'll be back later guys." She muttered grimly. "I have someone to see."
